Anyone who had genuine concerns about youth gender medicine would staunchly and wholeheartedly support social transition. Let kids explore their identities to see what works for them!

The fact that this movement opposes even pronouns and haircuts shows that it's just bigotry all the way down.
This draft guidance reproduces Cass insisting that clinicians must be involved in decisions about *social transition* which actually should be none of their damn business

They take the line that this "non-directive" intervention should force things to be "keeping options open and flexible"...

“Linear predetermined” is the self-serving fallacy I see folks fall into time and time again.

You can look back 400 years and pick out the seeds of our current political environment, but it’s a form of survivor bias.

The counterfactuals are endless.
I am saying without Snark that I’m working on something that in fact, blames Reagan and Gingrich and others for the rise of Trump and for the presence of actual Nazis in the Republican Party - but not in the linear predetermined fashion liberals would prefer.
People who voted Republican before Trump are convinced that the rise of Trump is NOT in any way connected to, say, the rise of Newt Gingrich and Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin and Fox News. (While they were voting Republican.)

But REALLY all the fault of the Democrats. It's canonical.

Gee, Universal Basic Income recoups more than it costs AND the recipients are happier and healthier.

Hmmm. Where have I seen those results before? Oh yes, in every other goddam pilot study of UBI for more than a decade. Ireland joins Finland in at least making a start.
Ireland’s basic income for the arts scheme becomes permanent
When piloted, initiative that provided €325 a week to eligible artists recouped more than its net cost, study shows

Police confirm the suspect was the person described in a safety alert as "a female in a dress with brown hair."

One of the worst mass shootings in Canadian history and the suspect (as of right now) is a woman.

We truly live in a wild and devastating timeline.

There's a lot of buzz about Christian revival among young adults in the UK & US. Perceptions of revival are fueled by results from opt-in online surveys. However, these surveys may be misleading. Surveys from random samples of the population don't show any clear evidence of revival.

My new post:
Has there been a Christian revival among young adults in the U.K.? Recent surveys may be misleading
Despite the widely recognized decline of Christianity in the U.K., there have been persistent rumblings of a Christian resurgence.

The Ambassador Bridge was built in 1928 and is an object lesson as to why *international crossings* should never be in private hands.

The family that owns it has destroyed entire neighbourhoods in Detroit and Windsor (including my childhood neighborhood) in bids to maintain power over the crossing.

Btw, after a Russia-backed insurgency separated parts of Donbas from Ukraine in 2014, an estimated 20-50% of residents left and moved to other parts of Ukraine. I.e. mass emigration did follow when marginal, unpopular separatists were used by an aggressive neighbour to carve up the country.
If Albertans vote to separate, there could be mass emigration, with 77% saying they'd leave.

I have a great many words. I started reading at 2, it was my escape throughout childhood, my mom did not believe in anything as too many books, nor did she have much of a concept of age appropriate.

I provided different words for my doctor's attempt at "shame"

Is my history degree worth it having been able to hand my mom new tidbits on her own mother, who died at 34?
Idk but it's neat.
And I did not hand over the conditions of the place she'd grown up were far worse than "normal" for a bad thing already.
But she could read & write as a child
