Books starting April 2024:

1. The Maker of Universes (Philip Jose Farmer): a very Edgar Rice Burroughs-inspired fantasy. Some things I appreciate and I get what the writer was going for, but it was not my cup of tea.
Man, when Webster went sad, it went real sad. Like, mega bummers and the attempts at humor only made the episodes more depressing.

Anyway, please come back anytime for more posts straight from 1985.

Have continued my exploration of the PC98 by playing the Sword World PC RPG and I am quite loving it. It reminds me of the old Gold Box games, but on a more streamlined, easier to handle way. Love the character portrait art and the game is surprisingly approachable.

Beat the Dragons Quest III remake. That last dungeon was miserable, but the final boss battles were not *too* hard. The little "plot twist" at the end has me really excited about the I/II remake.

I've been having fun playing around with PC98 games. That's a whole different gaming world I knew nothing about. Fascinated by the design choice in Madou Monogatari where you have no HP/MP but rather have to rely on the characters text response to attacks to know how close to dying you are.

Fitness Boxing Fist of the North Star is on sale for 5 bucks on the Switch eShop and it is a lot of fun. :)

How the hell did I not know that there was a 1997 Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner live action television show?! And that it was fan subtitled? People say it is not good but I will consume nearly any trash SMT or Dragon Quest.

Went to a Korean archery class today. It was so much fun! :)

I have always loved Akira Toriyama's art, which I think -ironically- gets lost in Dragon Ball's fame. I particularly love his vehicle and machine designs. That said, of all the wonderful, intricate designs he made, I still think nothing tops this absolute marvel.

Lord, who made the lion and the lamb,

You decreed I should be what I am,

Would it spoil some vast, eternal plan...

The old adage is that one becomes more conservative as one gets older and now that I'm older I feel this only became true for me for videogames. This random thought comes to you courtesy of how much I am loving the Dragon Quest 2DHD remakes.

For those of you who want to know more about the #wuxia and #xianxia genres but haven't read my interview in the Jade Moon Magazine Issue 2, where I explained what "wuxia" means and talked about these two genres, here's the relevant excerpt.

I was having a bit of a sad day yesterday so I treated myself to UFO 50 on the Switch (on sale now). It 100% cheered me up. Stayed up REALLY late playing it. True love letter to videogame design history that's not just empty nostalgia.

I've been re-reading Dune (which I had not read since, I think, high school) and for some reason I can't remember if the new film version or the Lynch version include that scene where the eugenics enthusiast takes her protagonist son to the desert and he starts tripping balls.

REMEMBER, as we near Christmas it's not too late to pick up one of my books for a loved one. They are full of the spirit of the season; good cheer, kittens, and heart warming, beautiful feasts*!

Went to my son's end of year school performance and had to deal with people who would just not shut up sitting right behind me. It took every ounce of mental energy to be civil about it.

Why people choose to be that way is beyond me.

My son has spent hours today listening to various weather-related sirens, proving beyond reasonable doubt to any stranger who would have met us both, that he is my son.

Watched the whole Kill Bill thing yesterday. Brother in law very kindly invited me and it was a lot of fun. I think Tarantino is an insufferable man, but that movie is indeed very well done.

On a bit of a Star Wars gaming kick and decided to pick back up the original Dark Forces. Great game. I had forgotten that the game's levels were designed by Satan.

One thing were I feel I differ a lot from the positions I'm seeing lately regarding tv/streaming is the clamor for "longer shows that are worse looking". I get where it comes from, but my personal relationship with TV is not one where I want to watch 500 episodes. I like for things to actually end.
