(Also this motherfucker is really out here in a button down, some manner of quarter zip adjacent item, *and* a suit jacket like he’s trying to avoid checking his luggage.)

I’m now the age my mom was when I was in college, which is an absolutely insane thing to contemplate.

Happy early birthday, you two! 1990 was absolutely 15 years ago, I’m glad we’re on the same page.

Even people who you’d otherwise think would know better sometimes fall into the trap of oh you can’t actually complain about still being economically vulnerable if you’re making decent money, as if we’re not all one major emergency away from entirely fucked.

I’m starting a new job in a couple of weeks thank god but people really underestimate what kind of money it takes to be even reasonably comfortable with the COL like we have in all the metro areas in California, esp. if you or your family are chronically ill or have any sort of additional needs.

Unemployment will just barely cover my mortgage (which is blessedly below market because my parents refi’d like 15 years ago.) Which still leaves food, utilities, my $1200 a month COBRA premiums, copays for meds, etc. I got severance and still gutted my savings in the 3 months I’ve been off work.

Yeah exactly, lots of people have scattered around the Bay Area but mostly not too far I don’t think. Maybe some in SoCal and a few of my closest are in Colorado now.

Our 10th was in I think September and our 20th didn’t happen because COVID. It’s funny because honestly I think most of us still live around here so we could probably have it whenever.
