The one book I really, really wanted for 5e, but never got, was an Arms & Equipment Guide. That was one of my favorite splats for 2e. It was filled with great descriptions and artwork of non-magical weapons and equipment, including the amazing Gnomish Workman's Leather.

I stole the Dying condition from Beyond the Woods, a 5e survival hexcrawl game due out in print next year. It lets 0hp characters stay in the fight, but forces a death save immediately, narrowing the window they can be healed. Still haven't killed anyone with it, but I've made my players sweat.

My guy, this is a 15-second fact check. PHB (2014) pg. 150. It's 1gp per 50' and it weighs 10 lbs. DMG has prices for magic items by rarity (pg. 135). No economics degree required.

I get people wanting to stan their game. And I get not liking other games. What I don't get is lying about games you don't like, or don't play.
From a PF2 vs. 5e thread. This works fine in 5e. There's several ways to do it that make sense, none of which require making up new rules.

Oh wait, I do use these death save rules from the Beyond the Qoods quickstart pdf. I absolutely love them. They make death saves both more dangerous AND less punishing.

I mostly scratch my head at D&D 5e critics who claim the game is unplayable unless you kludge in a bunch of weird house rules. Not really sure where the criticism even comes from. I've been running 5e for ten years and my list of house rules amounts to a half-page text document.

The correct answer here is: close the books, thank them for coming, and ask what they'd like to do instead.
If players ignore *everything* you've prepped, they're not interested in playing the game you're offering. DMs burn out every day trying to appeal to players who won't buy in.

Thumbing through the new Phantasy Star TTRPG, I found this little nugget.
This was EXACTLY the vibe I got from playing PS2 earlier this year. So much outside-the-box design that felt like it was just there to be different and weird. Even inputing commands in combat felt weird!

The Juniper Game. I read this in 6th or 7th grade. A weird hippy girl strong-arms her lab partner into astral projecting into her past life as a witch in medieval England, I think? Sheesh, what was wiccan propaganda doing at the middle school book fair? 💙📚

The Golem and The Djinn. The POV switching gave me whiplash. The two title characters were interesting, but it was a constant struggle to slog through the other POVs to get back to them. Had to pack it in about halfway through. 💙📚

I like making NPC helper buddies for my players to take on adventures. Instead of running them as DMPCs, I let the group figure out what to do with them while they adventure. (E.g. they control the NPCs during exploration and combat.)
