Another way of looking at this, of course, is that if you took the triple lock out of the equation, the benefits bill would very likely roughly be increasing in line with projected inflation *if that*

The Commons isn’t usually the place for sharp comedy, but today’s Budget delivered a moment that made even the frontbench blink.

Let’s just say Russia came up… and Farage was the punchline. 🔥

I was just thinking about contributing to the "charity" Feeding America. Until I discovered that the salary for its CEO, Claire Babineaux-Fontenot, was approximately $949,866 in 2024, with her total compensation being $1,113,502. Apparently, feeding America isn't her top priority.

“English folklore, that’s hot!”

If telling the troops not to follow illegal orders is “sedition,” what do we call colluding with the Kremlin to manipulate the U.S. President into advancing Russian interests over America’s?

Even @channel4news.bsky.social opens its budget coverage by asking "What will this do for Labour's position in the polls?"

Polls are not even a good predictor of future elections. They're certainly not a test by which budgets should be measured.

We have to break their cold, dead grip on politics.

How we beat back the corporate takeover of America:

1. Break up corporate monopolies

2. Continue building union power

3. End Citizens United and get big money out of politics

Let’s keep working to unrig the system.

Knowing your love of a pop culture founding myth, the A-Team opening begins by saying they're wanted for a crime they didn't commit.

The crime: robbing the bank of Hanoi

The defence: they were ordered to do so by US Command

The point: that order is *still illegal*: you cannot rob civilian banks!

In essence: juries are important for what decisions they prevent others from making.
Juries are not perfect.

Many of the worst miscarriages of justice have followed jury trials.

But the merit of juries is not so much the power they have, but the power they prevent others from having.

They mean a judge cannot just nod-along with prosecution evidence and give a guilty verdict.
