No. 18 overall pick in 2011 — he came off the board just before the first of four Red Sox picks in that memorable first round (Matt Barnes, No. 19 overall).
Sonny Gray, who had to officially waive his no-trade clause to join the Boston Red Sox, is owed $35 million this year with a club option in 2027. And just like that, the Chaim Bloom rebuild has begun in St. Louis.

It’s telling that the Devers camp drops this detail *now*, despite weeks of opportunity to set the record straight, since now there’s zero chance of Devers being held to it.
A little tidbit: Devers was willing to play first base for the Red Sox but wanted the team to commit to keeping him at that position moving forward, not to go back and forth.

Manager: "What's this milestone 'Living on a prayer' ?"
Me: "That's the documentation deliverable."
Manager: "What's the status of that?"
Me: "We're halfway there"
Manager: "Why is progress so slow?"
Me: "You fired Tommy"
Manager: "So?"
Me: "Tommy used to work on the docs"

Feels more likely it was a strategic drop to prioritize 10 others.

Latest Baseball Hall of Fame projections with 152 ballots in @notmrtibbs.com's Tracker. Carlos Beltrán's chances of joining Ichiro Suzuki, CC Sabathia, and Billy Wagner have increased since last week, but his current add/drop trends still leave him on pace to finish in the low 70s.

Would be fascinating to go back to ~2013 and revisit what the Red Sox could have gotten for Blake Swihart had they dealt him at the peak of his prospect value.
So far today two emails suggesting Kyle Teel was the next Carlton Fisk and did the Red Sox make a mistake.

The fervor over prospects is amazing sometimes. Teel could very well be a good major leaguer. Fisk is a Hall of Famer who hit 376 HRs over 24 years.
