My non-binary kid is having a hell of a time navigating their school's upcoming #Miscast concert. Imagine being told by your teacher, "sure you can perform those roles in youth theater, but you'd never be cast in them in professional theater."

It's too bad the #emmys couldn't find any musicians who worked with Quincy Jones to sing the In Memoriam song.

It’s nine o’clock on a Saturday
The unholy thing shambles in
He’s too big for the chair sitting next to me
And he makes an unbearable din

Sing us a song, you’re the piano man
Your skin is a wooden facade
You’ve brass pedals for hands
And your hair’s copper strands
Give unbearable insult to god

The cool part about The Onion in print is people leave them around coffee shops and workplaces. Kids steal them and bring them to school. People love this shit, which makes the staff happy, which makes the paper better, which makes business better. We consult no algorithm. We just make fun of jerks.

I just saw Pirates! A Penzance Musical on its first night of previews and while the show did a great job of relocating the original in New Orleans, including musically, the overt Indigenous erasure of the last song and the half-hearted attempt to justify it spoiled what was an otherwise fun show.

Visiting the Atomic Museum in Las Vegas, I wonder why, if the US can justify dispossessing a community of its land in Nevada for national security, it can't also justify dispossessing billionaires of their property for the same reasons.

imagine if people went to retailers and just took stuff and called it "generative shopping" and then, when the retailers said that's illegal, people said "regular shopping is too expensive so we have disrupted it" and then the retailers were like "OH! Carry on, innovators!"

The way I’ve come to think of it is like this:

Tech wants to go fast and break things. Nuclear needs to go very very slowly and nothing can break.

That means getting nuclear to power a very rapidly developing AI boom may not work.

if i've learned one thing from doing union stuff while also doing other forms of organizing, it's that you're better off with people you disagree with who are nevertheless trying to do the same thing as you than with people you agree with who aren't trying to do anything
