I'm loving Tim Walz for this almost as much as I'm loving what I'm imagining SNL's wig department is going to do with this week's sketches.

Light up the phones. Lifelong Dem who has voted Dem for close 55 years and watched the JFK inaugural address live with my family, who donated so much to Obama campaign I attended the inauguration. I've never called for a Dem leader to resign. I am today. I'm still furious.
Everyone in California. I just left an angry message at @schiff.senate.gov office in San Francisco. I've NEVER been this angry with the Dems. Told him Schumer must resign. They are all at fault. If you are a CA constituent, CALL Schiff's office and give him an earful. I'm calling Padilla next.

Right, the answer isn't to abandon the party to these weasels.
The answer is to flood the party with people who will take it over and transform it.

Hey, a lot of people are talking about changing affiliation from Democratic to Independent.
Let me tell you why you shouldn’t do that in Colorado.
One of the main ways to get a primary challenge candidate on a ballot is to caucus for your party. You need to be registered as a Dem to caucus.

Two-thirds of Democrats say their own party makes them feel frustrated. By far the most commonly cited reason is that the party is not pushing back hard enough against Trump. www.pewresearch.org/politics/202...

Great thread by one of the smartest Congress-watchers out there ...
Some thoughts on the CR/minibus.
1 The Dems negotiating with Rs were not freelancing. They coordinated with Sen Schumer. A few were ready to give in on day one, others worked to maximize appropriations wins.
Those voting for the 'deal' are the ones furthest away from electoral consequences.

That said I am lifting up the Senators who I KNOW fought, like my own @vanhollen.senate.gov. We need to press those Senators to demand a different kind of leadership internally. There’s still a lot more work ahead and we need the leadership to be chastened.
I have come to believe this as well. The list is too strange. I don’t think a majority wanted to cave, but many more than the 8.
I think that these 8 Senators are falling on the sword for Schumer and other Senators who wanted the shutdown to end. This allows the majority of Senators to save face; and only retiring or not up for reelection Senators take the heat.
It’s a ruse.

It’s as though Aunt Bea had hijacked a national political party.
Agree.
Sen Hassan, asked what will happen if Republicans don't carry out the deal, "Well, shame on them."
This is not what people were mobilizing for on Oct 18.

Shaheen: "We've heard from a number of our colleagues on the other side of the aisle that they're willing to come to the table, they're willing to work with us once the govt is open to get this done. We've heard the same thing from the White House. So now we'll see if they're really gonna work w/us"

It should be a basic minimum requirement of political leadership that you be an effective and persuasive communicator in the current era, able to tour the country to support your candidates and policies in public forums with real people. If you can’t do that, you aren’t a leader.
