Walking is a right; driving is a privilege. Not the other way around.

Defund, abolish, prosecute.

Oh, and I RT ducks.

Maybe you see my #PlowSidewalksToo hashtag and think, "Yeah, sure, sounds great but it would require a massive tax increase and expansion of the public payroll and no one is going to willingly sign on for that. Real shame, though."

So: a thread. 🧵

W is a new European platform aspiring to be an alternative to X.

What if we told you that it may actually be launching as an ATProto powered app?

This is a W for ATProto

So, uh, I bought my name as a domain, ponied up for the cheapest WordPress plan, and posted a few of my old essays.

genuinely insane the chilling effect employer based health insurance has on free speech. totally underrated and mostly ignored.
Also, when you're in a country where your health insurance is tied to your job, people are naturally less inclined to protest when there is a risk of it affecting your job.

Hey, urbanists, did you know about the National Transportation Library? A free federal resource that seems not to have been DOGEd. Lots of full-text stuff, though not everything is digitized and online.

A fascinating podcast!
The #bicycle was to prove transformative. Cheaper than a horse, it freed women and young working class people to roam free. And the bike was the testing ground for countless improvements in manufacturing that would later lead to Henry Ford’s production lines.

“If you care about the bottom line, budgets & taxes, then you should care about urban biking, because it’s a money saver. It’s ironic when so-called fiscal conservatives attack biking, when their efforts just show a lack of understanding of math.” My interview with @modacitylife.com #CityMakingMath
Opinion: Why more urban cycling saves everyone money | Urbanized
The resulting benefits of a ‘car-less’ household are myriad, but few are as quantifiable as the money most people sink into a depreciating asset that sits unused for 95% of the time.

There's a terrific MA or Ph.D. thesis to be written comparing the tactics, strategy, and ideology of 1970s US Christian conservative pivot to abortion after segregation was lost, and the 2010s/2020s pivot to transphobia after equal marriage was won.
Historically, this is exactly how ending abortion became a major issue. Christian Nationalists decided to make it one when it wasn’t one and as per their plan, it developed a life of its own. Most activists in the movement never know it was designed to organize them. bsky.app/profile/spar...
I'm used to seeing this work starting with or soley on an anti-abortion stance.

If you're giving a talk (webinar, workshop), practice it by yourself with a live transcription app running. You may not be aware that you drop an Um or two into every sentence. But your audience is. And we hate it.

Unlike several other languages, English has a splendid, ungendered pronoun for inanimate objects: it. Which is why it makes me cranky that we still insist on gendering nations and vessels as female.
