Technically the statement in the post is correct: empathy does not require agreement. However, I am not happy for them. I've wriggled out of your extremely leaky trap.

The NYT can't be bothered to mention to readers that the new TikTok owners have a long history of not just repeated privacy violations, but overt support for anti-democratic right wing extremism. Just isn't of interest to the authors.

Bounced hard off of Ruskin's Stones of Venice. The guy is just such an insufferable prick that it feels like I can get better, less obnoxious insights elsewhere. Am I missing something?

We should always challenge ourselves: am I actually always right? I probably doom too much, but the vast majority of people weren't dooming enough, so I think... yes, the mean should move towards me? I don't think it's a "bubble" thing, either; the Trump admin will happily tell you that I was right.
All the anti-war and anti-occupation protestors were right. All the far leftists were right. All the “woke scolds” and your friend who’s “too woke” were right. They were somehow even more right than they may have realized at the time. But really, it was always obvious they were right.

The prevailing consensus over the last year was that anyone calling for a general strike was ridiculous and ignorant and it would never work here, and maybe that’s true nationally, I dunno, but I bet those people wouldn’t have seen tomorrow in MN coming either
National media should really be covering the fact thay every major school, museum, and arts institution in the Twin Cities, and hundreds of local businesses are closed tomorrow to protest federal occupation.

Nothing like this at this scale has happened anywhere in America anytime in living memory.

I'm not into musicals, but TESTAMENT OF ANN LEE chose "folk-horror movie" as their vibe, so I'm into it. Some really great sequences. Seyfried is great, although sometimes I think she just looks like a Byzantine icon.

It is very important that your federal electeds hear not only from you on social media, but through direct contact as well. Tag them and then

Call and email. Do both. Tell them to move to immediately impeach and remove for an unconstitutional war of aggression.

Venezuela is a sovereign country, not a non-state actor. It is not developing any offensive capabilities that would threaten US safety. There has been no argument to Congress—the only entity that can declare war—that the United States must undertake military operations. This is beyond illegal.
Every representative, regardless of party. There’s a tendency to assume that Republicans are unbothered by public opinion. But if your federal representatives don’t object to this, they object to their own existence. There’s a non-partisan reason to reject this, and we should argue it.
Any D who doesn't push for impeachment should get primaried. This is it. No excuses. No more.

A small (personal) example of this book’s intellectual dishonesty:

My father-in-law is reading In Covid’s Wake, and excitedly told me he found a passage where I’m quoted. The quote in question is me saying the FBI worked to censor speech on social media.

Huh? When did I say that?!
