Leave it to @vermontgmg.bsky.social to clearly, incisively articulate exactly the awful vibe I have about this week and all that Trump is doing, but couldn't quite put into words.

A must-read on the historic, crushing moment the United States has found itself in because of our president:
We Are Witnessing the Self-Immolation of a Superpower
With Donald Trump’s actions in Greenland, Minneapolis, and Venezuela, a foreign enemy could not invent a better chain of events to wreck the standing of the United States.

This is the thing. There ARE protests here but the bigger story (and what you see in most of the clips online) is that many people here are just going about their daily lives **but constantly vigilant and running in to help the second it's needed.**

(Many others, of course, are hiding for safety)
Regular people are, at a moment’s notice, dropping everything to go watch armed masked goons. They blow whistles to notify other neighbors to come out of their homes and record what is happening and get the vulnerable inside. ICE hates it because they don’t want people to know what they are doing.

In a time when people, non criminals and citizens are being swept off the street with no recourse just for not being White, #pantone decides the color of the year is White. This stuff doesn't happen by accident right? There wasn't one person in the room to say no?

Unfortunately, in US journalism it is considered neutral to spread a lie, but it is considered "biased" to call out a lie. So, there is a structural asymmetry that rewards colorful lies with virality.

Again, we are in a moment where the U.S. government appears to be claiming the authority to kill anyone involved with the drug trade, without any warning or due process.

That potentially includes a LOT of Americans.
Another lethal strike, this time allegedly against a vessel affiliated with the ELN.

And no, the ELN is not like al Qaeda.

The ELN has not attacked the United States like AQ did on 9/11.

And Congress has not authorized the use of force.

This is essentially a dishonest apologia, since it doesn't square with NYT's historical reporting of mass protests. At present, NYT doesn't cover content, and doesn't cover count. It ignores the protests, while amplifying the message of the regime. Pathetic.

Important to note Trump continues to approach Ukraine in ways that directly undermine US, allied and Ukrainian interests and support Russia, rhetoric and desired optics of appearing as a middleman aside. Weapons and aid from US to Ukraine blocked or cut, Russian views advocated, pressure withheld.
