I interviewed a family of Russian asylum seekers who’ve been held more than four months at the Dilley detention center in Texas.
As we spoke over Zoom this week, their daughter Kamilla was one day shy of turning 12. I asked her what she wanted for her birthday.

I've never seen a population more united. If people can hold onto that unity, if people can accept that different people will have different ways of confronting fascism, if we can remind NGOs and orgs that they can join but not control the resistance, then, well, people here will write history.

I wish I could believe I was cis. No transition path will ever make me happy and the jealousy of all the trans people living their best lives is making me evil (it makes me really happy actually, but also sad because I wish that was me)

Remember: nearly every single one of these "cuts" by the White House is actually money that was budgeted by Congress for every university, organization, etc. This funding was part of ongoing operations and planning. The federal government is essentially breaking contracts with every "cut."
