The whole point of fiction is to make shit up. If the machine is doing the make believe, you’re effectively an editor, and that’s already a thing you can be.

Make it up or go find something to edit, but release your reliance on the earth-destroying water guzzler.
I’m starting to think I need to put my phone down altogether instead of swapping time-sucking apps for productive ones.

To those who only see numbers, AI is a boon. To those who love art, it’s repulsive.

We are not the same.

If you’re someone who loves reading AND discussing books, I highly, highly recommend Pagebound.

They’re still building out the app, but the discussions I’ve had there have been so good. I wish the rest of the sm apps were like it. The world would be a better place.

I have been buried in books and loving every minute of it!

Decided to dedicate a chunk of my reading goal this year to Ms. Toni Morrison, and she does not disappoint.

I love reading. in fact I love reading so much, that I will re-read the same paragraph 10 times over, in an attempt to pay enough attention to register it properly

Writer friends:

How have you found/built your support networks?

How did you get used to some of the loneliness of writing?

I thought I was tripping. Glad to see I’m not the only one who noticed the sharp increase in book prices. It’s getting ridiculous.

$17 for paperbacks. $14 for ebooks that can disappear with the push of a button. The recession is now.

The first thing that I noticed was the man’s tranquil surrender. He’s giving himself over to the beast, but he’s not defeated. This is a welcomed devouring, and something about that is compelling. I want to experience that kind of acceptance, but I don’t want to give myself over.

Beautifully done.
Calling this done because if I don't I'll keep fussing with the details forever and it's driving me crazy. 😅

Under my regime, the tech industry must have all new technologies approved by a citizen jury who assess 1) what problem the tech is attempting to address and 2) whether it actually addresses it

This is why valuing art AND artists is so important. People can’t dream of different possibilities because they have near zero practice in being creative.

We’re too hooked on mega artists and one-in-a-billion talents to realize we’re pouring our humanity down the drain.
People talk about social constructs as if they’re equivalent to gravity.

“That’s just the way things are.”

No, it’s not. It’s how we’ve made them. We can change things.

A wise woman once said, "We independent women. Some mistake us for whores. I’m sayin why spend mine when I can spend yours?"
A woman will look directly at you… knowing she got plenty good money in her pocket

And

Still take yours

Me reading that Mark Cuban skeet and realizing I’m already living in the "hypothetical" hell he’s describing.

Happy Friday.

This should be illegal.
EXCLUSIVE: We found that Instacart is using AI algorithms to charge customers different prices for the same items.

It's not just online. It's in physical grocery stores too.

Our months-long investigation with @consumerreports.org and @groundwork.bsky.social found it could cost families $1200/year.

Since making art is essential, artists should keep doing it. However, whether they share or withhold it is another a personal decision. Especially since the collective we is so damn entitled.

Of course I decide to get into writing right as the AI goblin is regurgitating everything ever written at warp speed.

Maybe being in a state of dread is when I feel most alive. ✨

I was talking to my friend about injustice the other day. He made the point that sometimes people intentionally go out of their way to not understand or remain ignorant. I’m realizing some Americans want to be ignorant of US foreign policy. Many don’t care about anyone but themselves.

This will still be relevant 200 years from now, so it’s off to a great start.
Starting my great American novel:

It was the stupidest of times. It was the, again to be clear, stupidest of times.

I’m so tired of these mergers. I’ve yet to see one benefit customers or employees. Not ever.
as you dig through coverage of the Netflix Warner Bros merger, play a little game with me:

notice how many of them mention, at ALL, the two decade history of disastrous previous Time Warner mergers, and the massive layoffs, price hikes, and quality erosion that resulted

Now I gotta go back and rewatch the whole thing because I am confusion and I need concrete answers to distract me from the chaotic messiness of real life.
Apparently many of you have never heard about this. Cobb tells Ariadne never to share your totem with anyone...and then tells her about the top? The top is a misdirect. Watch his hands. When he wakes up, he checks his hands. In his dreams he's still married (ring); in real life she's dead (no ring.)
*sighs deeply*

*Engages Reply Guy mode*

*Pushes glasses up nose*

Actually...

...the ending of INCEPTION isn't ambiguous. The top isn't his totem; it's his wedding ring and the final shot very clearly reveals whether or not the movie was real or a dream. In this essay I will...
