Today is Anni-Frid Lyngstad's 80th birthday, and I'm going to celebrate by posting one of her songs below. It's not something she did with ABBA, and also not "Something's Going On", which I think was the only solo US hit by a member of ABBA. Instead, enjoy her Swedish-language David Bowie cover:

Trump was _already_ "President most likely to be associated in the public consciousness with a particularly specific melange of odors" and I don't think this is likely to move the needle on that.
This alone would've gotten a previous president laughed out of office so fast there wasn't time to impeach him.

My @ootpbaseball.bsky.social sim has entered 1925, so for the tiny number of you who might be interested I'm doing a few catch-up posts with the associated account.
OK, it's been a while! So, let's catch up.

First, the Yankees beat the Cardinals 4 games to 1 to win the Alt-1924 World Series and put in a solid claim to be the best team of all time. Harry Heilmann hit .455 to be named Series MVP. 1/

In a day and age where large research projects can involve collaborations with dozens (or hundreds!) of co-authors around the world, this would end science in the USA if actually enforced.

Of course, I suspect it's "only" a vehicle for blacklisting basically any scientist they want to target.
Yikes. Banning people for activities such as co-authorship and advising a graduate student is completely unreasonable in a modern research environment. And a retroactive 5 year ban is wildly unfair.

If you turned 50 Raleigh outs into hits, he'd still have a lower AVG than Judge's .331

Flip 68 Raleigh outs into times on base and his OBP would still be lower than Judge's .457

Josh Naylor was great (.490 SLG), Raleigh outslugged him by 99 points (.589), Judge outslugged Raleigh by 99 (.688)
Cal Raleigh had an exceptional year. Good for MVP in a great many seasons. In my view, this wasn't particularly close though. Judge is doing absolute freak shit at the plate, but he's been doing it so consistently that it doesn't feel that crazy anymore. Which is nuts!

"It's a fucking crisis, Marcel! An enormous egg and chicken crisis, and you laugh?"
Peter Navarro: "We had an enormous egg and chicken crisis when we came in because of the great chicken slaughter by the Biden regime ... we're doing all sorts of great stuff to address the cattle and beef price crisis, but there's gonna be lags."

Hey, sure--happy 80th birthday to Neil Young. I've never been a huge fan, but I've always been at least a casual admirer. So, here's what's probably my favorite from his catalog.

We have upgraded our geomagnetic forecast today (12 November 2025) to the highest intensity level amid an ongoing solar storm.

Current predictions suggest that the activity will result in potentially the largest solar storm to hit our planet in over two decades.

This description of “science as practiced in its best form” is a great example of Everyone is 12 Theory. You can disagree that it’s impossible for you to throw a football to the Moon, but you’re not practicing science by doing so.
JD Vance: "Science as practiced in its best form is that if you disagree with it, then you ought to criticize it and you ought to argue against it."

If you have a very low-latitude aurora observation from tonight, please record your exact time and rough location and DO NOT DELETE your photo. These observations will be important for scientific research of this event.
