California should pass a law to clean up #AB2097, which removed most minimum parking mandates near transit. UCLA's Amy Lee, A. Millard-Ball and M. Manville have given us a road map for how to do that. Basically, put the "expansive interpretations" in this table into law.

Really enjoyed talking to Congresswoman Friedman about her exciting new housing bill!
Can the federal government actually help fix housing?
Rep. Laura Friedman thinks so and she’s got a plan to cut red tape and build more homes.

Comment 125: @armanddomalewski.bsky.social talks about how he has been coming to meetings for 10 years and how tired he is of begging to be able to afford to live in this city, of how we prioritize neighborhood character over places for people to live

the single biggest challenge facing California is housing and @bettyyeeforca.bsky.social is caving to NIMBYs. Utterly disqualifying
Not that she has a shot at this point, but I'm officially crossing
@bettyyeeforca.bsky.social off my list of candidates I'd consider for Governor of California.

Saying she wouldn't sign #SB79 is totally disqualifying.

Thanks to NIMBY group Catalysts for Local Control for getting the tea!

The way our laws are structured, the executive branch has enormous discretion to block most energy projects, but it cannot just jam through a permit for any project without getting buried in litigation. It is distressing that a major voice in climate doesn’t know something so basic
Now that we know the Executive can just permit some energy projects & refuse to permit others, if a Dem ever gets back in the White House, we should stop negotiating w oil and gas Republicans for "permitting reform" and just stop permitting fossil fuels while permitting the fuck out of clean energy.
this is such a wild and weird takeaway from this situation

permitting reform will not save renewable energy if a government simply doesn’t want to issue permits

unless you’re trying to literally require permits in all cases or just end all permits ever

The most Abundance Governor in the county is undeniably Josh Shapiro, who’s most famous abundance accomplishment is a super fast road rebuild using union labor
Also Brock Hrehor on how Jared Polis absolutely sucks. For all the insistence from the Abundance set that they are really truly pro-labor liberals, I don't think it's a coincidence that the politicians who support their ideas the most do stuff like this:

The Democrats’ One and Only Union-Busting Governor
Colorado’s Democratic legislature voted to repeal the state’s de facto right-to-work law. On Friday, Gov. Jared Polis vetoed it.

I think it’s pretty telling that the people who hate speed cameras also often want more police enforcement of traffic violations—because they trust that cops aren’t going to go after *them*
People on NextDoor frequently think that the reason cities keep recklessly adding speed bumps is because we've defunded the police. All time I see requests for more traffic enforcement.

Reality: Police and Fire take up 50% of most city budgets. In Redwood City, it is already 57%!
