The mythical US of WWII stories rounded up its citizens of Japanese descent and put them in concentration camps in California
Every time I hear about the conditions of the El Salvador camps I think about growing up hearing lots of stories where the US invaded & overthrew a government that captured and treated people like that.

I know the mythical US of WWII stories distinct from historical truth but the myth is dying too.

“One young man sobbed when a guard pushed him to the floor. He said, ‘I’m not a gang member. I’m gay. I’m a barber.’ I believed him. *** He “began to whimper,” as his head was roughly shaved, “folding his hands in prayer as his hair fell.” He “asked for his mother & cried as he was slapped again.”

I didn’t watch this but am I to understand that an elderly Black man stood up to a fascist, was then escorted out, and most of the white people in the room sat there and did nothing?

Am I getting this right? I want to make sure before I say what I need to say.

Think this is a great time to lift up the legacy and work of W.E.B DuBois and Ida B. Wells in using journalism, ethnography, and data to highlight the propaganda of white supremacy. They were able to pierce through official lies with meticulous work and compelling methods of communication.
Perhaps the most insidious thing President Musk is doing is decimating the federal government's production of data. This will make it more difficult for his critics to show, objectively, how stupid his policies are. Stalin did the same thing and executed a great economist named Nikolai Kondratiev.

in this house, we have heckin' doggos, we adult like a boss, we drink IPAs, we listen to Matt and Kim, and we also are apparently the only age cohort meaningfully committed to liberal democracy
