Had an epic time at #HalCon2025. Got to meet the 1000% Wonderful Harvey Guillen. Got his autograph. Showed him my #OFMD tattoo. He loved it & asked to take a pic. I said OK! I said "My leg is gay!" He laughed & wrote that on my autograph. He said he was going to send the pic to Taika 🤯

It's almost 2 years since the second season aired and the show is still woefully underpromoted by HBOMax, but Our Flag Means Death remains in the top 2.7% of all shows in the US and has an 'outstanding' level of demand.

You hit the big 50 recently - how's life been?
The struggle is leaving your forties! It was such a good decade. I think you really celebrate all you've achieved at that age. Arriving in your fifties comes with, "What do I do now?", but now that I'm there, I'm starting to own it! I'm the guy who's been around a while. I know things - I'm growing a beard!
Who's been your favourite character to play throughout your career?
I've played many funny types, but Stede Bonnet the Gentleman Pirate was probably the most fitting in some ways. I liked the outfits, I naturally like being a leader and, ultimately, he's also very silly and has to try very hard to be brave. In the animation world, my favourite has been Coran from Voltron: Legendary Defender. He's a lot smarter than Stede but also had such fine attire. Really, though, it's down to how good the dialogue is and how much they let me improvise!
What's the most surreal Hollywood or celebrity moment you've had?
I have been on a few red carpets with some big names. Most recently for my movie Love Hurts, I got to hang out with Ke Huy Quan and Sean Astin, so that made me feel like one of the Goonies! Hosting the International Emmys was a huge deal for me last year, but still the most surreal moment would be seeing myself on the big screen for the first time acting with Jim Carrey [in movie Yes Man]. It felt like I had been superimposed into a block-buster movie. By the time Jumanji came around, I was used to it.
Whose career do you envy?
I don't envy anyone else's career, really. We all have our own paths, so there's no point in wishing we were somebody else. Rhys Darby has worked hard to get where he is today. He's 50, you know - and can even grow a beard!
What's one secret we wouldn't know?
