Did you see a line at the bottom of pg 2 about Eisner Cove?

Let me tell you more:
Because of a power outage at the courthouse the date for Protect Eisner Cove Wetland society’s court appearance to decide if they will be allowed a private prosecution was moved from Jan. 19 to April 14. 1/3
New paper is out tomorrow.

On the front, a cover story by @joshrjhealey.bsky.social about Halifax's cost overruns on the pop-up stadium.

On the back @landofsticks.bsky.social writes about CPED's Green Network Plan's progress update. Spoiler alert: eight years in and it's 17% complete.
Anyone at Halifax Budget meeting today?

I wish I could do this. Peep this city budget. Chat, is the IMP cooked because of automotive rizz?

hobbyist democracy enjoyers! I'm at Halifax city council for budget public participation. There are 26 people signed up! I am a notoriously slow typer so I will be Doing My Best

Comparing old city budget books to the new one and the PDF opens to where I last opened it. Where I presumably last opened it a year ago. What is my life?

I'm at the hearing in St. Paul where Minnesota is asking a federal judge to preserve evidence in Saturday's killing of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis. The judge issued a temporary restraining order, but feds are arguing it should be denied because they already plan on preserving the evidence. (1)

HE’S DOING WHAT???
Quite frankly, it’s outrageous that Mark Carney is cutting Statistics Canada. If he was Stephen Harper or Pierre Poilievre, I feel like this would be getting a lot more backlash.

Carney of all people should know the importance of high-quality data and information about the country.

Rent did not neglect important questions about fiscal sustainability! Really enjoyed this and so excited for the series.
Starting this week, I have a series of interviews with mayors from across Nova Scotia. My first interview is with Bridgewater Mayor David Mitchell.

I hope to have an interview every week for the entire year. So far, I’ve received a “yes” for every request

Seriously considering packing up to eke out a life in the woods because I couldn’t verify a stat I want to put in an article. Woodland reclusion is preferable to misinformation. “When in doubt, leave it out.”
"An important distinction needs to be made between carefully reported and fact-checked articles and what seems like a glut of information at our fingertips at all times...social media reports offer relatively few new facts that have been borne out of rigorous reporting."

Why the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s closure exposes a growing threat to democracy
When reputable local news outlets close, fewer people vote and get involved in local politics, and misinformation, corruption and polarization increase.

I'm not aware of any other Council override of a Strong Mayor veto.

This may be a first in Ontario. (again, I'm not 100% sure)

Being a relatively unknown reporter is nice because not only do you get to say the name of your paper three times in a row like a spell before people get it, you ALSO get to send emails into the void. (Wouldn’t trade it for anything.)

Also, the Examiner agreed to publish my words. Lucky me :)
