It would be better if countries were kicked out if their public broadcaster didn't have clear regulations ensuring neutrality. This would easily eliminate 🇮🇱 and 🇦🇿, which have both used Eurovision to pinkwash war crimes.

TRUMP [after spending 5 minutes with Zohran]: surplus value, it’s a very wonderful thing, very wonderful, and they’re stealing it. Can you believe that?

This will be in an Adam Curtis film one day.
It’s the exclusive everyone wanted, the story that will win next year’s Pulitzer…

I can reveal London’s giant AI generated Christmas artwork, the subject of much online mockery, is being torn down - and I honestly *genuinely* think you’ll never guess why. www.londoncentric.media/p/ai-artwork...
London's giant AI artwork to be torn down
The bizarre story of why a much-talked-about creation is being torn down. Plus: Docklands Light Railway extension, giant laser stalks the night sky, and more tales of Android phone theft rejection.

That classic horseshoe of men who hate themselves for liking other men and taking it out on society, especially by projecting their self-loathing on women and queer people.

So, this thread--particularly @lizthegrey.com's useful explanation of how the relevant databases actually work--is worth reading in response to the Erin in the Morning story that's terrifying our community today.

But I'll add a few broad points about Where We Are and scaremongering.
I'm sharing this bit for folks in my specific situation (F on my passport which is correct, got it changed during the Biden admin):

"For those who updated their passports before this administration, any attempt to revoke those documents would be far more complicated. [...]" (1/2)
The intent, for anyone paying attention, is clearly to revoke trans peoples’ passports and then refuse to issue new ones, keeping us captive and on a state extermination list.

Children can correctly identify their own gender.
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

More than anything else, powerful men - like the ones who run the NYT - believe in the legitimacy of power itself. Because if it isn’t legitimate, they have to start asking hard questions about the world and themselves.

A VP's job is to break ties in the senate.
Dick Cheney knew what his job as vice-president was: to do whatever it took, whatever the cost, to defend America. And that cost, said his critics, was high

Lee Jae Myung is against Korean military dependence on the US. 'Made in Murica' vibes aside, getting a nuclear anything from the US is a step in that direction.

What's especially stupid is news orgs like WaPo, NYT, pull shit like this, or water down their coverage to protect themselves from Trump, when it literally Does Not Do That. Trump pulls shit arbitrarily, because that's how authoritarian censorship*actually* works.
New from me:

There's a lot of misinformation around the reasons I was fired from WaPo.

Here's the official termination letter I got sent by Washington Post.

In every other Stephen King book, it is understood that there is a violent, bigoted undercurrent to small town America. Characters either tap into that for evil, or fight it for good. When Dems say 'voters are bigots and we must pander to them', they're the former.
The headline says Mamdani offers only limited lessons for Democrats but the author's only evidence is a series of false and racist attacks by Republicans. Is the lesson that Democrats shouldn't run Muslims or minorities?

The recent ones in MN and LA are political theatre for Trump voters, not just because they're filling Miller's quotas for brown people (and obvs harming them in the process) but because Trump voters get to watch liberal cities getting invaded militarily by the feds, supported by local cops.
I don't care if these monstrous ICE raids are a "federal operation". This is authoritarian violence, plain and simple.

Just because Stephen Miller has kidnapping quotas for brown people he doesn't want to see on the street doesn't mean we have to think it's okay.

Birthright citizenship is a foundational policy of settler colonialism. This has nothing to do with what the 'Democrat Party' believes. It just *is*. Societies founded on settler colonialism pull up the ladder if there are too many pregnant tourists who are not white.

The one (1) US war in Vietnam is a drop in the bucket compared to the scores Chinese invasions of Vietnam. Consequently, Vietnam hates China more and is siding with the US sphere of influence in the Pacific as China develops militarialy.
