Just read that spring boot 7 has resilience annotations built in; still no adaptive retry policies, so actually using them in high throughput settings is a recipe for outages. I am really wondering why “proper retries” is so niche.

He then says that device & cloud businesses will be huge

There is good reason that even some moderarately-sized Amazon services have not added multi-region support: services running on top of AWS, with engineers building it who know exactly how to make things active-active.

It's because of the cost! It's expensive to run active-active

I keep being amused by some devs claiming that multi-region support for a service should be easy to add. Then turns out they're unaware of what active-active arch is.

Multi-region support is not all that complex from afar, but it gets complicated with the details.

I don't buy the AI narrative around prosperity for all. There is plenty of money to go around yet it tends to flow to the top. I can't imagine a world where those in control of AI, assuming it actually works, will resist charging an ever increasing subscription fee cementing the haves and have nots.

Sometimes I feel almost guilty for not using AI in some coding tasks. Am I a boomer-coder, on the verge of going extinct?

But then I recall past lessons, when I burned through the monthly electricity consumption of a small town just to coerce AI into writing what I already had in my head.

Even more exciting, DynamoDB is now available in us-east-1.
Amazon MQ is now available in AWS Asia Pacific (New Zealand) Region

AWS brings message queues to New Zealand! Because apparently "SQS" wasn't confusing enough, you can now overpay for ActiveMQ in yet another region. Just don't ask about the pricing - it's more complex than a hobbit's family tree.
