I'm confused. I already pay a large VED for my PHEV. Is Labour's new pay-per-mile tax in addition?
November 27, 2025 at 12:02 AM
"The overall tax burden is going up another £26bn, including via income tax and NI threshold freezes, on the very 'working people' Labour promised in its manifesto to protect. The freezes will also see people whose sole income is the state pension dragged into tax"

One sentence.

That’s all the NHS got in Reeves’ Autumn Budget speech — with essentially no detail on the govt’s plan to use private partnerships to fund 250 neighbourhood health centres.

With the future of our health service at stake, the public deserves clarity, transparency, and real answers.

It's always worth fact-checking what the English parties post through your door... in this case the data doesn't even relate to the constituency.
There are lies, damn lies, and Lib Dem election leaflet bar charts and we got this yesterday to remind me of that.
Note the relative heights of Lib Dem and SNP but, far more hilariously, note that both Labour's 13% and the Ref/Con bar of 11.3% are over half the height of the SNP's 33%.

Labour's last PFI schemes under Blair and Brown were a disaster we're still paying for. Now Starmer and Sarwar seriously suggest we'd be better off if they got their hands on Scotland's NHS?

Thankfully 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗡𝗣 has stopped them... so far.
Just a tiny snapshot of the countless articles exposing how disastrous PFI was…It was universally recognised as a failure. 🚫💸

So why — WHY — is a similar scheme being opened up again just 7 years later?!

We want answers from our politicians. Now.

The Tories shut courts and cut funding enormously in England, creating a huge backlog. Instead of restoring funding, Labour chooses to cut rights to a jury trial.

Reform won't be complaining.
Best understood, Labour's attack on juries, as a further lurch towards authoritarianism. Who, now, will stand in the way of a State that wants to imprison its opponents?

"Last year's promises broken" seems to have become the Labour party slogan these days. No doubt we'll see more of it later today.
Last year Rachel Reeves said that extending the freeze on income tax thresholds hurts working people & takes more money out of their payslips & she wouldn't be doing that because she was keeping her promises made in the manifesto.

So she won't be doing it today either, right?

Labour's Mahmoud has decided the Palestine Action ban case should be heard in secret.

"secret court hearings, particularly in civil cases, is a dangerous attack on human rights protections [often]
used to hide deliberate wrongdoing by the state"...

We can’t let history repeat itself.

Thatcher’s policies wiped out our industrial communities - Labour’s windfall tax is doing the same to today’s North Sea workers.

Scrap it, save jobs and let Scotland build a fair transition into renewables.

Without Brexit, the UK could properly fund our NHS' and national care services. The knock on benefits of that for our health, our communities, and the economy, would be huge.
The UK is losing up to £250m a day in lost tax revenue due to the economic impact of Brexit, House of Commons Library analysis for the Lib Dems suggests.

Brexit has blown a "black hole of [up to] £90 billion a year in the public finances" the party says. Even under lower estimates the hit is ~£65bn

In 2021 Good Law Project went for an Orwell Prize for uncovering the Covid PPE VIP lane - an issue which helped bring down the last Government. We didn't even get shortlisted - one of the judges was a Director General under the last Government working on... the Covid response. 😂
I’m a past winner of the Orwell Prize & won partly because I exposed Vote Leave’s unlawful activities.

Michael Gove was its co-convener & refused to answer a single q. He’s now a judge of the prize & our world is truly one that Orwell would recognise

Ahead of the budget, which the Scottish Government has had no clarity on, one thing I’m clear on is that Scotland’s budget and Scotland’s choices should not be damaged by the Labour Chancellor’s decisions. The budget that underpins your public services must be protected.

Unless it's purely transactional (equipment, medicines etc) profit and health care services shouldn't mix.
The government admits profiteering is rife in children’s care and social care, yet it still wants private finance back in the NHS. This is an ideology where a few will profit while everyone else pays.

Ultra processed foods are bad for you. Very bad. And the UK buys more of them than anywhere else in Europe. Another public health failure in regulating producers, advertisers, and sellers.

Glasgow is a great city.
Glasgow's has been found to be the best city in the UK to raise children. Yes, it's a survey by an estate agency (so make of that what you will), but it's interesting to look at why the city came out top.
