Alice Wong taught us that disabled people don’t just leave memories behind—they leave infrastructure. Lineages of care. Methods of collectivity, survival. She named the connective tissue that holds our communities together, even across death, even across the losses that come too fast and too often.

I don’t want to formulate words yet, but my friend Alice Wong, @sfdirewolf.bsky.social of the Disability Visibility Project, has passed.

Here are the words she left behind:

If you want to read a heartwarming book about the power of friendship, and also the power of cats, may I suggest Cat’s People by @tanyaguerrero.bsky.social ?

The audiobook narration is excellent, including the various meows.

Tapping the sign: "Staying alive is a lot of work for a disabled person in an ableist society."—Alice Wong in the Introduction to Disability Visibility
I find myself increasingly wondering how able bodied people appear to believe that being disabled is"easy."
Getting accommodations in school, uni and/or work: easy, a breeze, even!
Getting a doctor to write you a certificate supporting your needs: EASY!
Working from home: EASY!

N95s can prevent more than just Covid!

They stop colds, flus and other airborne illness.

They’re also highly effective against pollen, pollution, wildfire smoke and environmental triggers.

Many maskers haven’t been sick in years.

Respirators are pretty amazing.

Sports can be a funny thing but this is a reminder they are part of the civic landscape and it's a beautiful thing when, whether they care about baseball or not, everyone gets on the bandwagon and you see the diverse, often squabbling city come together for a special, few moments.

Honestly, for Toronto and Jays fans that is an unforgettable, indelible, brutal way to lose. That is pure heartbreak, pure what-if, forever. And that’s part of what made that one of the best baseball games anyone will ever see.

You can hear the Dodgers cheering because the rest of the stadium is silent with disappointment.

Cat is trying to climb all over me to offer comfort but I do not want his ears to block the baseball.

He compromised with him making a nest in my lap.

I might get scratched to heck when I scream but we all make sacrifices.
