No one listens... Reddit post by kind_kitten_2012 My mom died. I explained that her PCP's examination room has poor ventilation. I showed them the Aranet sensor when we were there. It climbed to 2000 ppm. I said when I'm not there someone needs to bring and run a portable air purifier in the exam room at least. I told them how I've measured lots of medical spaces and anything besides an actual hospital often has dangerous air quality. People literally walked away while I was speaking. My mom had just finished chemo, the tumors had shrunk and she seemed stronger. Then I was told, she caught a "cold" : After a while, she couldn't shake it. Her lungs became congested, and she faded away. She was breathless and more and more exhausted. She became incontinent. She slept, and then she passed away in her sleep. Just stopped breathing. No pulse. Cola.

There is no virus that “only” causes serious harm in people who are high-risk. And even if there were, it would still be important to protect yourself and others. Please take steps to prevent getting and spreading illness in order to protect your own health and the health of others.
If only high-risk people die from that illness, why should I care about it? 1. Because you should care about other people, whether or not they are high-risk. No person is disposable, so it’s important to take steps to protect the people around us. Even if you aren’t concerned about your health, taking steps to prevent illness also helps keep you from spreading illness to people who are even more vulnerable. And remember, you can’t always tell who is most vulnerable just by looking at them! 2. Because people of all ages and health histories can (and do) experience severe illness and die from common viruses. There is no virus that only affects people who are high-risk. Even if certain people are more likely to experience severe illness and death than others, even young and healthy people can and do die from illnesses like the flu, COVID-19, measles, RSV and more. All people should take viruses seriously, even if you are not considered high-risk. 3. Because dying isn’t the only risk. Even if data shows that most people do not die from a certain illness, many illnesses like COVID-19, measles, and more can cause significant long-term health consequences. These risks include permanent lung damage, memory loss, disability, and more. All people, with or without underlying health conditions, are at risk of these long-term conditions. It’s not only about living or dying. It’s also about protecting your quality of life and health you might not get back once it’s gone.

4. Because it is important to care about yourself and other people. If you do care about others: Remember that there is no such thing as someone who is “only” high-risk. It is important to protect others no matter their age or other health conditions. People with greater risk factors don’t want or deserve to get sick any more than anyone else. But even if you don’t care about others:Remember that there is no virus that “only” affects people who are high-risk. Viruses can and do cause severe illness, long-term health damage, disability, and death in people of all ages and health histories. Lower risk does not mean no risk. Either way, it is important to take steps to protect yourself and other people from viruses:

It applies to droplets larger than a tenth millimeter in diameter, which are rapidly removed from the air by gravity, before they can dry, and within a short distance of the source. The second form may be called air-borne infection, and deals with dried infected droplet nuclei, derived directly from droplets less than a tenth millimeter diameter, depending primarily upon air for the buoyancy which keeps them suspended for long times and carries them long distances. Red spikes coincide with driving through Sydney harbour tunnel on way to work and back.

Usually have windows open when driving car except for in tunnels.

It was only me in car yet it still fascinates me how quickly CO2 levels rise in the car with air con recirculating.

We have issued this press release in response to the "highly alarming" school absence figures (from 2022-23) released yesterday by the Minister for Education.
Page one of the press release reads as follows: PRESS RELEASE - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ISSUED 19/5/2025 by CLEAN AIR ADVOCACY IRELAND ~ BEGINS ~ Clean Air in Schools could boost Attendance ● Illness is the leading cause of School Absence in Ireland ● Fall in Attendance Shows Need for Urgent Action on Clean Air in Schools The recent School Attendance report from Tusla shows a dramatic increase in school absence, and is an urgent warning sign which should not be ignored by the Department of Education. The high level of absenteeism is being driven by illness, and this should trigger immediate action to improve indoor air quality in schools to reduce the spread of common airborne infections such as flu, RSV, and Covid-19. Illness consistently accounts for around 60% of absences in schools, and that remains the case in the latest report for the 2022/23 school year, with illness accounting for 61% of known absences from Primary Schools and 59% of known absences from Secondary Schools. In the 2022/23 school year, absences from Primary Schools were 46% higher than the 18-year average from 2003 to 2019. Absences of longer than 20 days are 128% higher than the same 18-year average in Primary Schools, and 43% higher in Post-Primary Schools. Clean Air Advocacy Ireland is calling on the Department of Education to implement guidelines for schools to manage the air quality in indoor spaces such as classrooms, canteens, staff rooms, and toilets. Improving indoor air quality through monitoring, ventilation and filtration has been shown to effectively reduce the transmission of common airborne Page 2 of the press release reads as follows: ...illnesses. We have the tools to minimise airborne pathogens and reduce the number of infections, through mechanical ventilation and air filtration, but we are simply not using them properly, or at all. There is also existing legislation in Ireland which governs indoor air quality in workplaces, and schools are places of work for teachers, assistants, and other support staff. Employers, including school boards, have a legal obligation to monitor indoor air quality and to implement changes where the air quality is below acceptable levels. Kieran Ryan, a member of Clean Air Advocacy Ireland, says the Tusla school attendance report indicates that something is going badly wrong in terms of sickness levels in Irish schools. “If we’re talking about increased absences in schools then we need to address the elephant in the room, which is an overall increase in illness at a population level. As well as common illnesses such as RSV and seasonal flu, Covid-19 has now added to the burden of illness faced by students, parents, and teachers.” “We know that many of these illnesses are spread via airborne transmission, so when children are packed into poorly-ventilated classrooms sickness spreads like wildfire. Infected children then bring the illness back to their own homes, and this seeds the further spread of illness within the community. If we can reduce transmission in schools, then we can reduce the overall burden of disease within our communities. It’s a win-win.” “It is not the duty of school principals or teachers to be their own public health experts or ventilation engineers: They must be given effective guidance & resources by the Department of Education to ensure that the indoor air quality in schools is safe.
