Public health, reproductive justice, big nerd about tv as health education. Fighting depression and anxiety with cats, bunnies, and raccoons. And being clever never got me very far. she/her
Like I said, she gets in it. The covers are still on these. I shut her out of the kitchen when I’m doing more than putting prepared food in the oven. But she’s my old little girl now, and she gets comfort being near me, and she’s allowed treats anytime she asks because she’s underweight so it’s hard

I don’t really like pecan or pumpkin pies, but I love fruit pies and citrus and plenty of other pies. My mom didn’t really like baking and wouldn’t attempt pastry down here, so pie was only if we ate out. I think that’s why I love it so much. Menu from my favorite restaurant in New Orleans.

Look at these neat mushrooms that came up in our lawn! Does anyone know what they are? They’re pretty big. I popped two of the three mounds off before the lawn guy mowed over them. Even if they’re not edible, they’re too gorgeous to let get chopped up.

Um, between my parents and I we have seven, and only one didn’t come from the backyard. One was born in the yard to an uncatchable feral mama, one showed up as a kitten on Christmas, the rest walked in as adults. Varying levels of trusting people. Latest is Fuzzybutt, who’s still learning to people.

I’ve had Boo for over a decade and I adore her, but she has no interest in other cats, and I think she says bratty things to them. Fuzzy is very polite abs deferential, and somehow charmed her by presenting his butt for her to sniff. He sits near her, and I’ve seen him check on her when she meows.

We raise it up, this offering
We raise it up
This is a gift, it comes with a price
Who is the lamb and who is the knife?
Midas is king and he holds me so tight
And turns me to gold in the sunlight

She also snores like a smush face dog, always has. I’ve tried leash training her, but she doesn’t like how the harness feels around her legs, and she doesn’t understand the difference between going out in it and just going out, and bolts out the back door. Oh, and she loves snow.

I think she was a pampered purse dog in a past life. Only cat I’ve ever known who likes dressing up.

I walked into my dad’s room and was greeted like this.

This is Nubbin, aka Thunderpants. Because those back legs are hella strong and she thunders around the house when she’s in the mood.

Oliver and I are at the vet for his annual and his vaccine for rabbit hemorrhagic disease. He doesn’t go outside and there aren’t any confirmed cases in Louisiana, but it’s a terrifying disease and can live on surfaces too long so we’re protecting him as much as possible.

Sarah Jane was a glorious, brilliant bitch, an evil genius trapped in the body of a fuzzy bunny. If you angered her, she destroyed things you love. Teddy was the only cat she liked, ever. I thought it was sweet, her befriending a kitten at the end of her life. I realized after she died that he’s

As of tomorrow, we’re stopping feeding raccoons. It’s past time to stop something we shouldn’t have been doing, but especially because this parish is long overdue for canine distemper to go through raccoons, and our population is dangerously dense. So this will be one of my last videos of them.

I had recurring skin infections in my 20s and had pretty much a standing prescription for antibiotics. I don’t know what I did to finally clear it up, but I fear it coming back.

And I respect all cats’ boundaries, but extra so for my fuzzy biological weapon.

I think ours have gotten cuter, but I think the reliable food has lessened the need to fight for it, so natural selection isn’t favoring the biggest, best fighters. Except that our queen and BAMF, Cyclops, was also one of the best mamas, who had big, smart kids. I can trace her matrilineal genes

As your local bad example, the raccoons in our yard have been fed for about 15 years, and I’ve hung out near them for almost 10, many generations, and they’re closer to domesticating us. And their curiosity, compulsiveness, and near opposable thumbs make them terrible pets. 2017 vs last week

🎵blue canary in the outlet in the bathroom, who watches over you?🎵

Thanks to @tmbg.bsky.social we’ve got some glowing blue joy in the house. My dad was amazed by its sensor that automatically turns on when it’s dark.

“Yeah, doing a tie in for our show about killer fungus with a company that makes mushroom coffee, that sounds like a great idea!” said the marketing department at HBO.

Best way to go.

Teddy not only asks for his belly (and armpits) to be scratched, he lets me put my whole face in there. Smells like heaven.

He looks up through his lashes like she did. I just need him to let me pick him up in time for his vaccines in March, or find a new sedative he’ll eat in a churro. Otherwise, I’ll be fine if he’s more of a parallel play cat than a snuggler. He’s good company.

Fuzzybutt has been indoors since March, and out with the other cats since May. He’s FIV+ and I’ve got a biter so we had to be sure he’d be safe. He’s a chonk and doesn’t know his own strength, but he’s sweet and deferential and is adjusting because he loves his friends. Just too big for this bed.

Oh what sweeties!! My cat Badger was raised by my bunnies Lindy and Beatrix when he was a kitten. He’d curl up with Bea when she didn’t feel well. But the rabbits I had after them weren’t friends with him, until Winston. Winston insisted they were friends, and took care of Badger until the end.
