This is a good checklist for having policy influence in general.
One big takeaway from Mamdani bringing YIMBYs into his transition is that advocates can often gain a lot of power by

1.) having useful answers to questions and accurate information

2.) being reasonably polite and pleasant to elected officials

3.) understanding the actual mechanics of government

You might be thinking, "CPSC, does a dry Christmas tree really burn that much faster than a well-watered tree?"

Friend, let's find out together by watching this PSA.

Just for fun, I wanted to see what would happen if we Prop-50ed the Senate by dividing California into three states. Each of these new states has 13 million people, the same as Pennsylvania.

The irony is that Prop 13 is an obstacle to solving the housing shortage, so it's indirectly raising your property taxes if you bought a home in California in the 21st century.
Fascinating to learn that even with Prop 13 in place, Angelenos pay nearly twice the national median in property taxes simply because their homes are so expensive. www.consumeraffairs.com/finance/citi...

"When you forget that things had to be built, you risk inheriting them without gratitude" is a quote that goes ridiculously hard considering I heard it in a YouTube video about stop signs in video games.

I love how delulu people on Reddit are. There was a guy earlier today trying to recruit a team of developers to make his dream game by offering to pay them 5 USD per month.

Oh, this is a good topic!

There is an element of 'consent' to pitched battles, but it's not the old myth of generals agreeing to have a battle before tea time.

And to the question - a better Roman general would presumably have refused battle at a place like Cannae.

But let's talk about it. 1/
I don't think I really understand "pitched battle." It was once common that opposing armies agreed upon, or knowingly converged upon, a specified battleground?

Polybius says the Romans engaged at Cannae because of inexperience. Would experienced leaders ever agree to the same battle conditions?

I have to look through Trump's stupid reconciliation bill so I can update a tax calculator on our website, and this thing is even dumber than the TCJA of 2017. It has, by my count, three separate provisions (so far) which all do the exact same thing.

After a truly herculean amount of work, I've finally managed to create a function that fuses the vertices in my icosphere together. It turns out that I was forgetting to update the normals array, which broke the resulting mesh.

Now I just need to remember why I needed this in the first place.

A truly historic day in California: a clean CEQA exemption for environmentally friendly infill housing has just passed the California legislature via the budget bill!

No other way to put it: this is the most transformative positive shift in land use policy in this state of the last 50 years!
