And then, tried to keep paying the now 12x more productive workers the same wages as before.
That's it, that was the problem luddites had. Not complex.

I do not think that fictional characters should have human rights. There is, in fact, no limit to what should be allowed to happen to them, on account of them being not real and imaginary.

The case against the death penalty is honestly pretty simple if you have a brain:
Give the government a loaded gun
They will only use it on the bad ones
Current party thinks you and everything you are is one of the bad ones
They charge you erroneously in court
They use it on you and you die
