This is not good. We all do realize that it is unlikely that Netflix is doing this to permanently expand their pre 1980 offerings, right? A whole lot of film history is about to disappear.

Exactly so: if you insist you can only give to the "deserving" then you commit to a lifetime of judging and distrusting others
The Victorian insistence on fencing away help from the undeserving is a mental trap that causes misery for everyone, including its advocates.

Basic Income looks this in the face and says “Cash for all. No questions asked.”

It is why it works. It is why the evidence for it is never enough for them.
Balancing "no person with a disability should be denied accommodations" with "it's important to discourage non-disabled people from pretending to be disabled to take advantage of these accommodations" is really difficult and I don't have a great answer for what anyone should do about it.

The Sick Times is out here doing top grade research and reporting on topics other publications won’t touch.

As someone with long COVID, their work is INCREDIBLY important to me. Please boost or donate, if you can.
We're kicking off our biggest fundraiser of the year by participating in NewsMatch, a national campaign to support newsrooms across the US run by the Institute for Nonprofit News.

We need your help to keep telling #LongCOVID stories. Will you donate today? the-sick-times.fundjournalism.org/donate/

No matter how big or bad, I have always “pushed through” obstacles w/sheer force of will. Yet, a grocery run now can leave me collapsed in a sweating, shaking heap of anesthesia- grade fatigue & fog. I don’t expect most folks to get it, but occasional acknowledgement that this is hard would be nice.
“The problem with Long COVID is that most of society would rather not see it.”

@philipandrewhoover.bsky.social writes that he often feels that he’s living a double life. How can this sick side of him be so central, so enormous, yet so unseen by those who know and love him? bit.ly/4pf80g7

Few things more embarrassing than miscutting fabric such that I have to message a customer and admit I have to either substitute or refund their order.

Few things more heartening than a customer who asks which option I presented to them is easiest for ME and is cheerful and chill about it. #KSQShop
