My takeaway here is that we’re not, by and large, and industry. We’re a hobby, and we should act like hobbyists sharing something they love, not capitalists trying to out-grow each other.

I really wish we had a well funded, power critical fourth estate interested in investigating the source of this clearly coordinated effort by payment processors.

Like, we keep seeing the impact of it, but I really want to know the "who" and the "why" beyond nebulous surveillance/puritanism forces.

Context: this speech is from SIR THOMAS MORE, a history written, as near as scholars can tell, in the early 1600s by 6 or 7 people including Dekker, Heywood, Chettle, Shakespeare, and Munday.

It was never performed, because Jacobean England was a police state and it was banned by the censor.
Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

i’m disturbed by the casual misogyny towards Melania Trump. it’s ok to hate him, or even her, but there is a line between political stance and vulgar name-calling.

No.

It takes a special kind of brokenness as a human-being to look at your tens of millions of dollars and say “that’s good but why not hundres of millions?”

So yes, while money/power makes you more of yourself, good folk with money spend it to help others.
You can look at the Epstein files and conclude that only bad people have billions of dollars, but I think it’s also possible that having billions of dollars cauterizes your humanity

"The Plot to Enslave America" that I talk about a lot is not a metaphor.
Peter Thiel has been open about this for a long time. Trump is a way to break the republic, which can then be replaced by “free economic zones” with oligarchs as dictators and tech as a taskmaster for helpless humans without any rights. (1/2)
Definitely seems like they destroyed the country on purpose.

One of my favorite jokes of all time is "Adolph Hitler Commits Suicide" being a tiny headline under the banner story about a hare-vs-tortoise race ... in 1943, two years before Hitler committed suicide. He was alive and well when the Warner Bros. cartoonists made this joke.

Like at its core the Steam review system isn't about anyone's opinion on video games, really

It's a public survey about whether a given project deserves to live or die

I love this a lot. In every project I worked I built or fought to be able to built, zoos and gyms. Rarely production managers actually let you do it and understand how important it is, they instead prefer you to slave away at some document/wiki platform that no one ever reads.
My 2025 talk 'Gyms, Zoos, and Museums: Your documentation should be in-game' is now also available in text format, for those who like to read instead of watch: rystorm.com/blog/gyms-zo...

And if you haven't seen it yet, there is an all new video too, with bonus material on the history of Zoos!

It's by @ericxyz.bsky.social and it's brilliant and he did it traditionally.

Couldn't resist the pull of doing a classic Crisis Homage on top of it all!
