Zwei ältere Frauen gehen nebeneinander einen Parkweg entlang, beide in leuchtend roten Steppmänteln und mit Rollatoren. Sie bewegen sich auf eine klassizistische Kolonnade zu, deren Säulen und Holzdach in der Wintersonne hell schimmern. Um sie herum liegt eine dünne Schneeschicht, die Luft wirkt klar und kalt. Die Bäume tragen keine Blätter, ihr Geäst rahmt die Szene von oben. Das warme Rot der Mäntel kontrastiert mit dem kühlen Blau und Grau der Umgebung – ein stilles, harmonisches Bild von Begleitung, Rhythmus und gemeinsamer Bewegung im Alltag.

A macro photo of a dried seed head of a sage plant. It's centrally framed against a dramatic, almost entirely black, soft-focus background, which accentuates its complex structure and vibrant, desiccated colour. The seed head forms a spherical, architectural whorl composed of numerous angular, star-shaped calyces that once held the flowers. These individual, cup-like segments have sharp, pointed tips & a geometric, honeycomb-like arrangement. They're a striking combination of golden-yellow & a softer, silver-grey, with a textured, aged appearance. Fine, white, fuzzy hairs cover the inner surfaces of the dried calyces, providing a soft contrast to their sharp outer points. Two large leaves flank the seed head. The leaf on the upper left is dark and mostly out of focus, while the one on the right is in slightly sharper focus and features a more prominent dark green, sage-like colour with a slightly curled edge. The stem supporting the seed head is thin and yellowish-brown. The stark contrast between the bright, detailed subject & the dark, blurred environment creates a moody, intimate portrait of the plant's autumnal beauty. Taking a break from Africa pics... here's a significantly cooler locale.

On a peaceful morning in the Great Bear Rainforest, I stepped out on deck to hear the silence of this inlet broken up by the exhales of two humpback whales.

This remains one of my favorite shots from the early years (2009).

A red- breasted Merganser with a long, narrow orange bill and grey-brown plumage splashes across the water’s surface as it takes off, wings raised high and feet kicking up bright sprays. Its reflection stretches beneath it on the calm blue water, broken by ripples and droplets.
