This is far worse than anyone expected.

Trump's HUD plan would cut *two-thirds* of permanent housing and push as many as 170,000 formerly homeless people back onto the street—redirecting funds to work mandates, forced treatment, and encampment sweeps.

All as mass internment camps are being built.

Sexual violence is so normalized in our society that we generally hold victims more responsible for handling it with dignity than we do abusers responsible for not being predators.

We had to pass a Presidential Fitness test when I was in high school. It was a nightmare to make a mile in 11 minutes. It did nothing to encourage me to be more physically fit. Quite the opposite in fact. There has to be a better way. wtop.com/virginia/202...
Virginia governor signs executive order to bring presidential fitness test back to schools - WTOP News
The Presidential Fitness Test could return to Virginia public schools as early as next fall, as part of an executive order Gov. Glenn Youngkin signed last week.

AI remains largely a solution in search of problem. Just think what could be done with $5 trillion out towards education and healthcare and infrastructure instead of putting it towards the newest tentacle in the Tech Bro Cinematic Griftoverse.

If Democratic voters (including centrists, liberals, progressives, and even some leftists) had stuck by Democrats in 2010 and 2014, the ACA would be a lot stronger now. If they had shown up for Dems in 2016, we wouldn't be here at all and women would still have reproductive rights. But no.

A study with data from ~14 million children shows that COVID19 infection is significantly more harmful to kids’ hearts than the vaccine.

Marty Makary falsely alleged that “children died” because from COVID19 vaccine. Whomever told him that failed to account for SARS-CoV-2 infections.

Casual reminder that the myth of “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps” is a cruel hoax designed to convince poor people from all walks of life that the injustices they face are a result of their own actions, rather than an oppressive system rigged against them.

If you think the people throwing Great Gatsby-esque parties for themselves, while millions were denied their food assistance, are all of a sudden going to grow a conscience and save affordable healthcare, you clearly have not been paying attention.

The anti-vax movement has been immune to appeals for community health since its inception.

That’s why the U.S. has laws around childhood vaccines for school entry. We must do everything we can to prevent further slippage.

We’re going to lose our measles elimination status just as Canada has.

1. Kaine and Warner operate as a single governing unit due to their relationship;

2. Kaine has hinted he won't run in 2030. Expect a hand-picked replacement (like Rep. McClellan) from the Kaine patronage lineage.

3. Primary Mark Warner. The case against him is book length.

Anyway a great way to radicalize people is for them to realize that you just abandoned their chance at being able to access and afford health care because you didn’t like waiting in line at the airport.

i don’t play pundit and try to guess how stuff will play to voters whose politics generally make no sense to me, but if ending the shutdown was about the important business of getting SNAP benefits and air travel back online, it also rewards hostage taking in a way that seems pretty ominous to me

At this point, three things should be non negotiable. SNAP funds, ACA credits and IMPEACHMENT. They can work out the rest later.

I've looked at all the details of this deal to end the shutdown reached by a small group of Senate Democrats. I've talked to a number of friends on the Hill to see if there's anything I'm missing. Sadly, I am not.

This is a shit deal. It's a betrayal. It's cowardice.

@kaine.senate.gov @markwarner.bsky.social @abigailspanberger.com, this is what your surrender means. Total capitulation to everything Trump ever wants.

If you intend to represent anyone who voted for you, you need to find your spine & stop his agenda.

look. call your senator. but don't forget that requiring you to do this every single time, even when it's something obviously and unambiguously evil being passed, is part of a system designed to wear us down and close off our ability to imagine a better world
