Even more thoughts:

Montréal spends 200 million dollars a year on snow removal. 75% of public road space is dedicated to cars so at least 150 million a year subsidizes car users. Only 65% of trips are made by car though. Bikers, pedestrians and transit riders subsidize drivers (aka welfare queens).
