Weak, weak, weak. This appeasement must end.

Starmer should be uniting with our allies against Trump's threats, not splitting off to suck up to him.

The takeaway from the entire story should have been "HOLY SHIT THIS DUDE IS STARK RAVING INSANE."

Instead, NYT did 20 stories squealing, "OMIGOSH we've got access again!!!"

[And I don't think I'm exaggerating on that number.]

I've harped on congressional war powers for a long time and we do need to fix all that, but threatening to invade Greenland while ranting at Norway about the Nobel Peace Prize and imposing trade sanctions on NATO is more the kind of thing you can only fix by not having a literally insane president.

You know where all this ends folks, don't you.
This isn’t immigration policy. It’s a business model.

ICE keeps growing, not because it makes America safer, but because corporations are raking in billions off cages, bodies, and suffering. ICE’s existence is a massive revenue stream.

Hard agree. Trump looks drunk on the power of the spectacle

Hard to see how ‘security and economic guarantees’ are gonna cut it.

What will Europe - and UK - do if he pushes on?

This could quickly become an existential question for Brussels - and for Starmer
It's clear that Greenland is now such an idée fixe for Trump that the entire US state will be used to pursue it.
Interesting how, when pressed to sound more forceful personally against Trump, Starmer restates essential nuclear and intelligence partnership. Wld be interesting to know what, if any, implicit and explicit threats US has made to withdraw that cooperation. Strong whiff of backstage menaces there.

One thing to watch for in European leaders’ responses to Trump’s claims relating to Greenland, is the language they use.

It might not seem like much, but it will have long-term consequences. 1/8
