Good morning DC from a peaceful corner of Gaithersburg.

Last night, mom and I had a slumber party at her apartment. This morning, I am having a cup of coffee before she gets up and the chaos begins.

I don't f##cking care.

The writers of the Constitution didn't believe the poor should vote, a woman to serve in Congress, or a black man to be president.

I want a better country than they imagined. We all should.
The writers of the Constitition never intended for a criminal tyrant to be president.

Interesting argument here on code of ethics violations.

I'm not sure what permits and approvals are required for work on the White House. My understanding is it's been a "gentleman's agreement" to coordinate with several committees and little more.

NFPA code determines spacing of fire hydrants in municipalities. It's not responsible home ownership to live near a fire hydrant, it's responsible government.
Markwayne Mullin: "Reward people for being healthy. Think about this. Healthcare is the only industry that you're not rewarded for taking care of your responsibility. If you think about homeowners insurance, if you're within 500 feet of a fire hydrant, your insurance goes down."

The House bill being voted on today to require cash bail in DC is insane.

DC hasn’t had cash bail since 1992, and crime has plummeted since.

Our current system is near identical to federal law.

People should be held pretrial if they pose a safety risk — not because they are too poor to pay bail.

I am reminded today about how absolutely wonderful many people are. And I just love that.

I'm no political strategist, but isn't this the party platform we need, want, and dream of?
Breaking: An Epstein survivor just silenced press conference attendees when she delivered the following remarks:

“Today we stand in a moment that will decide whether our government belongs to the American people, or to those who prey on them.”

Days at the Baltimore office are LONG. I don't mind the commute from DC but add long days in the office and I'm wrecked. I got home tonight at 10:50. This really isn't sustainable like this.

I was reading Stanford White's biography on Wikipedia this morning on the way to work and I have to say that this shit isn't new.

Coffee, blackberries and finishing up reading my latest mystery novel on this rather grey sort of lazy Sunday morning.

Hoping everyone has an excellent Sunday!!

I love when Ikea furniture instructions indicate two people are needed to put the item together and singles around the entire globe are proving them wrong every day.

Now that I've been back in DC for a couple months I realize how incredibly devastating the loss of the Post and WAMU are to our city.

I'm grateful we still have really good journalists working in DC, but my god what a tragedy.

Yikes!
Things change fast folks.

I've heard from several sources air traffic control staffing at #DCA is going down to one — yes, one — controller this evening. Expect significant flight delays and maybe cancellations tonight.

@washprobs.bsky.social #washingtondc
US airlines cancelled 780 flights, or 3% of total scheduled, on Friday, Nov. 7, the first day of the FAA’s shutdown-related flight cuts. Cuts will step up to 10% of flights at 40 key airports over the next week.

Safe travels everyone.

One analytical model shows that, as of November 5th, the dismantling of U.S.A.I.D. has already caused the deaths of 600,000 people, two-thirds of them children. https://newyorkermag.visitlink.me/jUzNSc

Has anyone done this? What did you do?

So my computer was acting up today and I called our IT firm to help me out and now the computer is dead. 😭

However I listened to three episodes of the "Your Dead to Me" podcast that were excellent and the train to and from Baltimore was very pleasant. Gotta look at the good side.

Yes, please.
ah, perhaps instead of pumping millions into endless factional infighting Dem donors could invest in making local Dem organizations genuine civic spaces that can reach people during and between elections

As Tip O'Neill would say "All Politics is Local." Maybe it's less local than it used to be, idk.

New Yorkers will vote for different candidates for mayor than of cities across Ohio, Massachusetts, Georgia, and Texas. And THAT'S THE POINT.

"After the raid, the building’s Latino tenants were told by the landlord to vacate by the end of the month without what residents described as the legally required 30-day notice. The property is managed by TranGroup LLC."

So only latino tenants are told to vacate? Is this legal?
“I heard banging and I thought it was a roommate cooking. Then I heard yelling.

Suddenly there were half a dozen US Marshals, US Park Police, ICE, and DC police as well, pointing guns at me.

National Guard was providing a perimeter.”
SCOOP: Latino Tenants Told to Vacate After Georgetown ICE Raid
Witnesses describe multi-agency sweep at Wisconsin & O St. NW; 10–12 taken; Latino units “tossed;” ammunition left in the hallway, and tenants told to vacate.
