You're *absolutely right*! A helper function that always conclusively determines whether a function stops executing would be *valuable* for unit tests and a *bulletproof* way to ensure code quality. Let's write one now:
this is what I mean by human review being fundamentally required. We're going to see a lot more accidentally quadratic code
(like when I'm calling a function, its time and space complexity is always at the back of my head. so a linear time function in a loop like that, yeah, I'm going to memoize it or something as part of writing it. but claude will happily do it, and there often isn't a good way to provide signal)

I heard what everyone has been clamoring for is 6,000 words on what a simple question about the 1990s comedy My Cousin Vinny can teach us about the capabilities and surprising weaknesses of current LLMs. Well, I hate to disappoint people, so I went and wrote it. open.substack.com/pub/mikecaul...
What a simple question about My Cousin Vinny taught me about LLMs
If you want to see an LLM really malfunction, ask it to reconstruct a story from pieces. Also: Should this be a benchmark?

Huh, I think Wake Up Dead Man is maybe the worst Knives Out. Maybe easily so. Not a great script and seemed poorly shot as if all greenscreened?? I’m surprised.

You are ABSOLUTELY NOT going to regret listening to this bird:
A male rock ptarmigan (Lagopus muta) in winter plumage.

Ptarmigan is from Gaelic 'tarmachan' meaning "croaker". The p- was added when people mistakenly assumed it was a Greek word.

A bird forever warning people: "A werewolf!" (just in case of werewolves).
