The killing of these “regional centers” will make U.S. academia and society even more parochial and, ultimately, less competitive and safe.

Nayra Guzmán was 15 days post C-section — going to see her baby in the NICU — when she was taken to Broadview and held in custody for about 34 hours.

She slept on a bench and barely got food. She couldn't pump.

Her story is a rare window into the growing detention of pregnant & postpartum people.
Her baby was in the NICU. She was in ICE detention.
Before Trump took office, postpartum immigrants were rarely detained by ICE. Nayra Guzmán was detained while her 15-day-old baby was in the NICU.

Probably not many people know what TRIO is. The programs help first-generation or low-income high school students and veterans get into college, and help with early childhood education. I researched and helped write two grant proposals which were funded.
Stop calling it "witholding". The money was appropriate by Congress, and by law was to be disbursed to the intended programs. The money was supposed to go to the programs, Trump and McMahon prevented it from doing so, sending the $$ back to the Treasury. Call it theft, because it is.
Trump Administration Withholds Millions for TRIO Programs
Nonprofits that advocate for first-gen students say that without the federally funded programs, college could become unattainable for hundreds of thousands of students.

Note new NIH new civil rights rule prohibits grants to any institution with any DEI/A programs or Israel boycotts. It says nothing about other race, gender, disability, or limited English discrimination, and yet it supersedes the previous policy that included all those protections. #waronscience

I’m getting word that the International and Foreign Language Education Office at the Dept. of Ed is very likely being liquidated. In my career I’ve been a part of three successful Title VI NRC/FLAS grants, and wrote/directed a Fulbright-Hays program in 2011. A building block of my career crumbling.
