Lots of elites, more than you think and more than publicly admit, believe science proves there are racial IQ differences or evolutionary psych proves women are less likely to succeed in certain professions. This has nothing to do with the quality of the science, and everything to do with deflection.

I've been watching videos about a notes taking app I'm playing with and it's striking how the kinds of people who make personal knowledge management tips videos all read exactly the same array of pop neuroscience, sociology, and philosophy books.

My first year in DC, I was at an event where Rick Scott spoke, a couple years before he was governor of FL. The Cato Institute's founder Ed Crane was there too and as Scott took the stage Crane leaned over to me and said, "That man's embezzled more money than anyone you'll see in your whole life."

The argument works when there are alternatives to the thing, such that if the thing goes bad you can escape it. The state possesses a monopoly on the legitimate use of violence within its borders. If it goes bad, you can't just find another one.

Many of his comments this year suggests he consumes a ton of popularist content and very little pointing out the many flaws in that thinking. I assume his peer group is the audience that consumes popularist content, so he would need real intentionality to get other perspectives.

Went to a gaming store and discovered that the only tabletop RPG they carry is D&D. That's like going into a bookstore and discovering the only fiction they carry is Dan Brown.
