Breathless coverage of one person injured, not killed, on a CTA train, vs. a brief on Page 9 when two people are killed on the road. That’s because road death happens ALL THE TIME - 3 1/2 road fatalities per day in Illinois.
It looks like the number of transit riders killed this year is one …

All the winter cycling videos are popping up.

Reminder: Winter recreation/fitness cycling versus transportation cycling are very different.

Transportation cycling: don’t stress too much. Don’t go out and buy all the gear. Keep riding and address your discomforts as they come up.

@westtowns-urbanist.bsky.social @peterlewis-jpg.bsky.social Any experience or tips taking a Brompton on the Amtrak Blue Water or similar? Will be my first time today. Planning on putting it in a IKEA Dimpa bag.

Most Americans have no concept of a car free lifestyle and have no idea how great it is.
Right, this is true, but the OVERWHELMING evidence of the past 100 years of American life is that vastly more people want space and a car than a smaller unit and a car-free lifestyle. This is mostly why the suburban share of US population has grown relentlessly for the entire 20th and 21st century
Some people put a premium on space in my experience, others put a premium on not having to have a car and not being isolated out in the suburbs

This is a small snow plow for sidewalks

If your city plows the roads but leaves sidewalks up to property owners, your city hates pedestrians.

Amazing how Meet Me On Milwaukee can double revenue for local businesses but business owners believe doing it more than once per month would make it “less special.”

Car-Free ‘Meet Me On Milwaukee’ Events Will Return To Wicker Park Next Year
The program blocked off Milwaukee Avenue between Damen and Ashland avenues to cars and buses for three Sundays this summer and fall, boosting foot traffic and business activity, organizers said.

Feeling proud of Illinois. We are funding transit when many other states decided transit wasn’t important.

Downstate folks upset about the share of funding that’d go to NE Illinois in the latest iteration of the transit bill, consider this: about 845,000 people rode CTA on an average day in 2024. That’s more than the population of every county in the state except Cook and DuPage.

Five months later, the House somehow still got caught entirely flat-footed: watering down reforms, hiking regressive taxes, and basically throwing whatever else at the wall to see what could stick, all for a bill pronounced DOA by the Governor’s office within hours.

That’s not hard, that’s silly.
October 30, 2025 at 1:12 AM
Playing 20 questions with the Governor is getting old. Pritzker needs to be up front about what revenue he’s comfortable supporting.
More importantly though, it's time to come clean and take a stand on revenue sources. We know what revenue sources the Governor doesn't like; @govpritzker.illinois.gov, what transit revenue package *would* you support?

The House and Senate are clearly still light years apart; we need leadership.

The House and the governor's office had five months to get on the same page regarding revenue, and clearly they failed to do so. How the heck do we have a legislative supermajority + a generally agreeable governor and still fall short?? Advocates have been hounding them for MONTHS. So frustrating.

Two points I would suggest:
• Don’t let a single geography be able to unilaterally kill any progress with NITA (bring back the 15-vote threshold option)
• New revenues should be less regressive (sales tax increase) or gimmicky (streaming tax) and more transportation-related (Uber/Lyft, burrito taxi)
Thanks for going through it. Will call my legislators' offices today

She has now ordered Bovino to appear personally at the court every day to report back what has happened and to list everyone arrested who is not being arrested for immigration enforcement reasons. This is the most insane court session I've ever been in. Feels like a headteacher bollocking
