Pinned post: I'm an environmental scientist who has historically worked in air quality & climate in the U.S. I'm looking to connect with other climate/environmental scientists; policy makers; mitigation, adaptation, and sustainability experts; and others fighting for a just, safe future.
I expected this with GHG regulation, but not criteria pollutants. This hurt to read. :/

When you get the reputation of being the guy with the encouraging words on New Year's Eve, it can start to come through as a little pressure -- what if the situation on the ground is worse than usual? what if people are more scared than they usually are, and with cause? what use are good vibes then?

Shifting myself away from short-form social media sites like FB, IG, and even Bluesky gave me a lot more time for reading and contemplation. Next year I hope to read at least as many books, but also spend time creating art and writing for myself.

This brightened my day the first time it was posted I and thoroughly enjoyed revisiting this delightful thread. Read it - you won't be sorry! A lovely little timeline cleanse.
THREAD.

My parents' cat Bridget vanished. As the weeks dragged on they became ever more worried, so to distract himself my dad began to paint Bridget's adventures, imagining her travelling through time and popping up at some of art & music's most important moments.

I've collected his work here...

Felis Derpus here ate 4 hair ties, which explains his recent tummy issues. He is better now after surgery but the bank account is not. Why hair ties? Why 4 of them? No one knows, except Felis Derpus.

Visited the Dix trolls today. Hard to explain the feeling here. The park and trolls are lovely. The history is heavy.

I was out hiking and a mountain biker passed.

Me: have a nice ride!
Him: you too!
Him: *flustered realizing I wasn’t riding*
Him: *processing*
Him: *processing*
Him: enjoy your legs!

Well that settles that for my new trail greeting.

Been thinking about this for years. A lot of climate authors (and progressives) have made the point that capitalism = climate destruction, and it has to be addressed at the ro(o)t. A move towards authoritarianism and fascism is a direct response to challenges to the fossil fuel status quo.

An old philosophical question about a tree falling in the forest, U.S.-mainland bias, and the "politics is local" perspective. My thoughts on why some Americans think the 2025 hurricane season was quiet. It wasn't.

Breathe in profit. Breathe out responsibility.
