Interesting (to me, at least) encounter yesterday with an axe-wielding killer:
I was out getting steps when a homeowner called me over. I turned. He started approaching me and I saw that he was holding a hatchet. He asked me a question - I think it was something like ‘Can you help me?’ ‘Not when you’re holding an axe!,’ I half-yelled.

Story 🧵.
Semi-spoiler: Snake!

JUST IN: The Virginia Senate has approved a constitutional amendment to enshrine abortion rights.

The Virginia House already did this on Wednesday.

It's official: there'll be a referendum later this year on the issue.

Guess what bit of legislation is back in front of South Carolina lawmakers?

H. 3537, aka the Prenatal Equal Protection Act—the bill that would punish abortion patients as murderers. (Which in South Carolina could mean the death penalty.)

when ICE asks you questions about your neighbors, you've never met your neighbors in your life. you've never even seen them from afar. neighbors? what neighbors?

Agree w Garrett, w this footnote:

In my memory, as child watching news from Birmingham on our black-and-white TV, Bull Connor's squad was brutal in retaliation. But they didn't seem as clearly to be *provoking* or inciting a reaction.
They were intimidators. CBP/ICE are provocateurs (Eg Reichstag)
We must stress: The only violence is coming from CBP/ICE. They are rioting in the face of sustained nonviolent protests by thousands of Americans across the country.

They are today’s Alabama State Troopers at the Selma bridge. They are Bull Connor’s police with firehoses in Birmingham.

Just spitballing here, but I think the founders probably wouldn't have approved of a President putting the entirety of a highly militarized federal government on a war footing against a state because he didn't like how they voted in the last election. But I'm sure John Roberts knows what he's doing.
Trump just posted that the "day of reckoning & retribution is coming" in Minnesota.

This is f*cked up!

There isn’t any law in this country that requires you to provide proof of citizenship on the interior, but unfortunately ICE is racially profiling.

And they don’t care if you say you’re a US citizen.

So where does this leave everyone? If you don’t look white, you’re in danger.

I realize that every word that comes out of his mouth is outrageous in one way or another but unambiguously framing execution as a legitimate response to disrespect is still noteworthy
Q: "Do you believe that deadly force was necessary?"

Trump: "It was highly disrespectful of law enforcement. The woman and her friend were highly disrespectful of law enforcement…Law enforcement should not be in a position where they have to put up with this stuff."

9. To even the wokest white person, violence by the state is still mostly theoretical. We might believe it’s true. We might trust Black people and other people of color are speaking truthfully about their experience. We might see videos online. But we don’t know what it *feels* like.

Did you reach the right position before them? Sure, here's a gold star.

Do we need their numbers to make this work? Yes. Please stop acting like the hipster who knew about this band before anyone else. We actually do need the normies.

NEW

An initially-secret report for Customs and Border Patrol in 2013 found:

In many vehicle shooting cases, the “driver was attempting to flee from the agents who intentionally put themselves into the exit path of the vehicle, thereby … creating justification for the use of deadly force.”

I want a candidate that explicitly states that, if elected, ICE is done. And not only that, but a full investigation will be done to find and prosecute each and every agent who has broken the law.

Vance is the embodiment of the cowardice and complicity in the GOP.

In a blink of an eye, Vance went from decrying Trump as a dangerous nut who would be "America's Hitler" to happily serving as his loyal little lickspittle. He can't be shamed, but he should still be insulted as often as possible.
Shapiro: J.D. Vance is profoundly and pathetically a weak human being, and he does whatever he thinks his boss wants him to do.

What we need right now is not idiotic gaslighting from the sitting VP

He should be ashamed of himself—and he’s not. I think that speaks to the weakness of his character.
