Ignore the blah blah blah and remember this:

"Since atmospheric GHGs [which increased by +2.3% in 2024] drive global warming, [this is] ultimately the metric that matters for meeting the temperature goal of the Paris Agreement."

Unless these decline we are on a steady march to hell

Hugely encouraging news from Brazil today. President Lula has instructed four ministries to draw up a roadmap for a just transition away from fossil fuels, and asked his government to formulate an energy transition fund using income from petroleum revenues.

After this weekend's racist attacks on the EU, I've written a column about the moral obligation to stop posting on X.

Oh no, wait, I wrote it *two years ago* when it was blatantly obvious what was going on and how it would get much much worse.

@ec.europa.eu you really need to get everyone off that platform.

There is no “win” from staying on that place!
After the little Musk-Sikorski spat this, and Musk's statement to abolish the EU (after the Commission fined X), let's ask ourselves simply:

HOW ARE EUROPEAN COMMISSIONERS USING X NOW?

In this 🧵 I'll document it, Commissioner by Commissioner. When did they last post? How often do they post?

Background global heating 1.5ºC (current 12-month running mean (ERA5))
425.77 ppm global CO2 concentrations year-to-date

With current government emission reduction commitments there is 75% chance 2ºC will be breached (via UNEP)

‘Just heartbreak’: At least a dozen homes lost in bushfires near Sydney
Two emergency warnings were issued for bushfires in NSW on Saturday, as firefighters continue to fight blazes across the state overnight following hot conditions.

Don't look away from this tragedy - this is a sign of things to come as we head to 2ºC

I sound like a broken record - we are *utterly* unprepared.

We need to *urgently* have a clear view of the risks and do something about robust early warning systems that reach people on the ground timeously!

I just analysed the latest Sentinel-2 satellite images for the storage dams feeding Knysna South Africa.

This is not looking good - at all. Is this the first South African town to hit Day Zero?
Tracking Knysna’s Water Crisis – Satellite Images Show The Drama Unfolding
To better understand Knysna’s current water situation, I’ve been monitoring the Akkerkloof and Glebe dams using Sentinel-2 satellite imagery. Because these are off-channel dams, rainfall does not fill them directly. They can only refill when pumps successfully move water from the Knysna and Gouna rivers after rain improves river flow. The sequence of images from […]

Do not look away from this tragedy!

Here is *exactly* why this is happening as highlighted by UNEP (2025)

"To date, no [governments] have set targets to reduce oil and gas production or phase out inefficient fossil fuel subsidies"

Fossil fuels keep being burnt, emissions and temps keep going up
