Despite being a Millennial, I completely missed the boat on Pokemon and do not understand the hype. It seems like it’s effectively the same barebones game updated slightly every few years and packaged as new. And the gameplay isn’t even very interesting.

Sadly I had to move back to the US. Desperately want to get back to EU some day

That's about the age I was at when I hit the wall. Thankfully I didn't have unemployment on top of everything else. I've been very fortunate that way in my career.

You'll be OK. It'll take a bit. But you'll come out the other side stronger, a better dev for it.

Thank you. In many ways I'm glad this happened on my first job. I was young enough to bounce back, and old enough to learn a lesson or two from the experience. I've come close to the line a few times since, but I'm much better equipped to see it coming and mitigate it. Things are a lot better now

The only benefit of that early burnout is that I now understand the early warning signs and have at a few points been able to course-correct before things got bad again.

What got me out of it? I moved from the US to Europe where they had much stricter rules around working hours, and a culture that vilified crunch culture. That first year opened my eyes to what I'd been through, and how the job can be in better circumstances

Next summer marks 20 years in game dev for me, and I've experienced pretty intense burnout in that time at least once. It was at the beginning of my career and I didn't understand it while I was in the middle of it. It wasn't until I was 2-3 years out of that studio that I recovered...

I figured “a” was a freebie

Also both Tron sequels really seem to misunderstand what made Tron such a beloved cult film in the first place and are largely just mimicking the visual style

In honor of October, what’s a 4-word horror story only someone in your profession would get?

I had an essential medication that I’ll use to take daily for the rest of my life jump from $10 to $50 to $175 for 30 days, over the course of this year. It has been brutal :(

Now that @npr.org is no longer govt funded, I’d be absolutely delighted for them to go aggressive on every false statement from the Trump admin. Don’t go Fox News on them, just hold them to account. Every. Single. Time.

When I was a kid, bedtime was 9 pm.
I couldn't wait to be a grownup so I could go to bed anytime I wanted.

Turns out that is 9 pm.

What do we want?

A producer!

When do we want them?

Did we ever write that down? Where would we even write that down?

I don't know I just memorize them

That makes sense

What were we talking about?

I dunno

Probably not that important then

If only we had someone who knew

This hits extra hard the week NPR goes fully listener supported, and many regional stations across the country are facing closure. My hometown station WPSU is closing next year. A real shame. Penn State is where the conference was held that eventually led to the establishment of public media

"You've failed to meet the requirements of Cert X. Please re-read the vaguely written docs on Cert X, address the issue and re-submit"
"Um, I'm meeting every element of Cert X in these ways. What am I missing?"
"I'm sorry, I can't tell you that..."
