Are you a clippy? I am a clippy too
And no it's not about being 'anti-tech' nor against 'progress'. It's about ethics and setting boundaries to the constant violation by big tech thieves of our privacy and personal data.
Would you accept having random people come daily to inventory your house?

Cause they can't do all that perfectly and in a world of apparent 'perfectness' the fear of not doing everything 100%+ intolerance to efforts has left many completely paralyzed (like toddlers in front of stairs) so instead of trying they just break down. They don't 'refuse', they just throw tantrums
An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.

In light of record submission rates and a large volume of AI-generated slop, SocArXiv recently implemented a policy requiring ORCIDs linked in the OSF profile of submitting authors, and narrowing our focus to social science subjects. Today we are taking two more steps:

Hi #academicSky, any words of wisdom or kind advice for a humble postdoc trying to write a fellowship and feeling overwhelmed?
What made/makes things a bit easier for you in this situation?
Things you wish you had known before?

popEVE is out in Nature Genetics! 🎉
We built a proteome-wide model that combines cross-species and human population variation to rank missense variants by disease severity and help diagnose rare genetic disorders.

Just a friendly reminder as we go into the holidays:

Folks don't have to explain to you why they don't drink.

If you offer them a drink and they decline, don't ask them why. It's not your business.

Just offer them something without alcohol to drink instead. And move on.

How does messenger RNA (mRNA) get out of the nucleus to become a protein? Eukaryotic mRNA is packaged, exported, and then translated in the cytoplasm. But how do these steps work? And what are open questions? Check out our new review for our take: www.annualreviews.org/content/jour... (1/3)

#RNAsky 🤩🤩🤩
Messenger RNA is made in the nucleus before it is exported to the cytoplasm for translation. But how are only correctly made mRNAs chosen and remodeled in the nucleus for export?
Our new paper investigates the nuclear events leading to human mRNA export. www.nature.com/articles/s41.... (1/4)
