Shoutout to a yinzer neighbor, whom I’ve never met, stopping in the middle of the street to tell my dog and I, “Big fire over there, lotta black smoke.” “Oh damn, where?” “Over there.”
Allentown. Climax Street. Multiple callers indicating a house is on fire. There is an argument outside, some people are rushing inside, and one caller said this is an abandoned trap house.

NEW: Post-Gazette to shut down 240-year-old paper after SCOTUS slaps down company’s bid to evade court order

“Instead of simply following the law, the owners chose to punish local journalists and the city of Pittsburgh,” said Goldstein, president of @pghguild.com

The newspaper of record of my entire childhood would literally rather die than pay its unionized workers the wages and benefits that the actual Supreme Court of the United States of America decided were owed to them.
NEW: Publishers of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette announce they are shutting down the newspaper on May 3, 2026.

Hours ago, the Supreme Court of the US declined to extend a stay on a court order for the paper to pay its journalists following the end of a 3-year strike.

BCI just announced to the staff the closure of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette as of May. Unbelievable.
This company wasted who knows how much money to pay a lawyer who clerked for Alito to try and vacate our victory and even that didn’t get it done. Shocking that the workers are right again. Shocking!
Post-Gazette, when you can’t even get Alito and this Supreme Court on your side, it’s over. Give us our health insurance back and just hand that CBA back at the same time. 🫳🎤

Seeing Corey O’Conner take over as Pittsburgh mayor is so incredibly depressing. Who is excited for this other than private capital and people who will use his admin to further their own careers?

A real news outlet publishing the phrase "Grok apologized" should result in like a week-long timeout. Think about what you've done.

I wonder if there’s a correlation between a city having millions in fucking tax breaks for giant healthcare & tech corporations (who already earn billions in the private sector) and not having enough money to adequately plow & salt the roads when you get half a foot of snow & it’s 8° outside.

I'm not the old man yelling at clouds about city snow removal, but it truly feels like the city of Pittsburgh *added* snow and ice to the streets since Saturday night. My Subaru with decent tires spun out at a couple of lights ffs.

Today is day 1,132 of the @pghguild.com strike against @post-gazette.com. It’s also presumably the last day of the longest strike in Pittsburgh history.

Bob puts it better here than I can, as I felt like Homer on Smartline many times. We won back our dental plan too, it just took a few extra days.

So proud of the tenacity, courage and persistence of our Pittsburgh family ✊💪celebrating with you today.
🚨BREAKING: STRIKERS WIN!

The order affirms what we’ve said all along: The PG’s lawless union-busting cannot stand. We made sure it didn’t. We’re taking back what they stole from us. We won this strike.
