Scoop: the pro-teen social media ban lobby group 36 Months was funded & co-staffed by its co-founder's ad production firm that was simultaneously making gambling ads

The federal government has ignored calls for a gambling ad ban while pursuing the social media ban.

Politics with Michelle Grattan: Sarah Hanson-Young on the social media ban as a risky ‘fake silver bullet’
The Greens’ senator says she’s worried kids will end up ‘in other online spaces that are even darker and more dangerous’ – and Australia should act on other options.

Among many other things, the entire teen social ban saga is a brilliant example of how shitty, badly-researcher airport books can have shockingly outsized influence

Australia’s social media ban comes out of the cult of self-help books. Dodgy research and rich false gods preaching about the ills of contemporary society. Yet structural issues aren’t addressed.

Australia, this is embarrassing.

Currently it seems to be

Privatise the Profits
Socialise the Losses

Time for change.

This is why for a long time I've found the Prime Minister's Prizes for Science a rather insulting propaganda exercise

www.abc.net.au/news/science...

CSIRO funding as a percentage of GDP:

1982-83 = 0.17

2024-25 = 0.03

...

Scientific extinction event imminent?
The CSIRO cuts are just the tip of the iceberg for Australia's science funding
Australia is known as a country of innovators, but with a combination of brain drain, continuous cuts, and a loss of critical science projects, is Australia losing its edge?

Depending on particulars, there could be avenues for complaint (Ombudsman, various Commissioners, possibly anti-corruption re misconduct in public office), processes can be slow/cumbersome & jurisdictions are labyrinthine often narrow, but alleged behaviour appears problematic given his public role

This is really bad!
First - it seems some kind of monitoring and/or database is being kept on community independent volunteers - and then there's the refusal to serve a constituent based on their political views.

Would you capture it, or just let it slip?"
