An interesting beat here on the “male loneliness epidemic”, I wonder how much of that has to do with economy. Can we be more empathetic if we’ve got more money and it goes farther? Can we spend personal capital on relationships if we’re not working two jobs?
"loneliness, beneath its many cultural expressions, is often a structural failure disguised as personal failure. The solution isn't fixing individuals. It's transforming the conditions under which we attempt to connect."

When Hospitality Hides Loneliness
In Türkiye, economic hardship—more so than social skills—drives loneliness. Many reframe solitude as growth and connection as extending beyond humans to nature and places.

Hiring a Black woman: “identity politics”

Hiring a white guy for a job that has been held disproportionately by white guys, because he is a white guy: “subverting” identity politics!

(The author of this sentence is Dylan Byers; you will not be surprised to learn that he is a white guy.)

People keep wondering why they're going after Venezuela. It's because they want to do regime change and control its oil, then use a big tract of land there to keep a tax free "network state" that looks like Dubai but operates like Rhodesia. They are saying this out loud! Believe them!

Mozilla is using Google's proprietary LLM Gemini to overwrite Volunteer translations. That's not only a great way to destroy goodwill but also to poison your community. What are you doing @mozilla.org and why is it always some "AI" shit?
Mozilla's Betrayal of Open Source: Google's Gemini AI is Overwriting Volunteer Work on Support MozillaMozilla’s Betrayal of Open Source: Google’s Gemini AI is Overwriting Volunteer Work on Support Mozilla | Youssuff Quips
TL;DR: Mozilla’s translation bot on Support Mozilla (that is currently overwriting user contributions is based on the closed source, copyright infringing LLM, Google Gemini. This is in spite of Mozilla claiming that they are at the forefront of open source AI, and belies their exhortations to choose to build open source AI and data sets. Although Mozilla has experience in attracting open contributions for data sets in projects like Common Voice, Mozilla is using a closed data set to overwrite open contributions. Since (paid) Gemini queries do not train the model, Mozillians can expect to correct errors every time the bot automatically updates an article.

the unitarian notion of accountability is, in general, very strange as it holds that a single election — the president’s reelect — is more democratically accountable than the rolling process of democratic assent produced by legislative elections and congressional oversight.

The conviction that a "unitary executive" guarantees "democratic accountability" is more like a civic religion or folkloric superstition than a constitutional theory. Federalist Society true-believers drill it into their acolytes and teach them never to question it, but it's fundamentally nonsense.
