New pinned post/thread. 🧵

My husband of 19 years @kevingaustin.bsky.social passed away suddenly on 11/11/24; if I seem grumpy or sad or am slow to respond-- that's why! The obituary I wrote for him is below.

First three photos are from June 5, 2014, which was a 1980s night at Target Field (see alt text for info); last photo is a blast from the past. Me, outside the Dome, in the late 1980s or possibly early 90s. 🧵
My husband Kevin G. Austin, a very white guy with blonde hair and blue eyes who is wearing glasses and a navy blue polo shirt with a Twins logo on it. He's wearing a vintage 1987 Twins World Series baseball cap and standing in the Legends Club at Target Field (in front of a wall that celebrate Kent Hrbek) Apparently for 80s night I dug out an old 1985 All Star Game cap (I was there) and also a 1987 Twins World Champions button and then I took pictures of them at Target Field. My folks, at their preferred window seat inside the Legends Club at Target Field. Their backs are to me showing that they are wearing old Coooperstown Collection jerseys with #34 (puckett) and #14 (Hrbek) on them. Both wearing caps. Looks like they're eating pizza before the game starts. Some weird white chick with vaguely blonde hair and very cool Mikli eyeglasses (they're 80s big though). That's a "Software Etc. Cafe" t-shirt I'm wearing with the sleeves pushed up. My hair was past my shoulders. You can see a sign from outside the metrodome above me. I must've got fancy with filters on this the first time eI posted it on Instagram or someplace as the edges are ragged.

Looking at other pictures I took that day and at my Dad's vintage Twins cap (and jersey) and all those pins, I guess I'm not surprised it was a 1980s Twins celebration of some sort at the ballpark. (more photos in next post) 🧵

Missing my dad more than usual on his birthday.

Photo I took of him in our good seats at Target Field in June 2014. (We had season tickets in two locations— they were all good seats, actually.)
My Dad, an older gentlemen, in a vintage Cooperstown Collection Twins jersey with navy blue and red. He's wearing his old World Series cap with a bunch of Twins enamel pins on it (hmm, I think I have it around here somewhere). Sitting in section H of the Legend's Club at Target Field Hes smiling He's wearing glasses and has a crew cut not that you can really see much of his hair.

When Moises Sierra was up my Dad said "Ruben?" and I said "Alou?" and Kevin said "we're old."

The Turner production quality is ass but their pre/postgame show with Lefkoe, Grandy, J-Roll, and Pedro is infinitely more pleasant than Fox.

They just happened to pick three pictures where he was just kicked in the beans and one where he was stung by a bee (on the beans)

blake treinen hasn’t been that excited about a guy not getting hit by a projectile launched from higher ground since july of last year

Should've taken that last pitch, if not HBP. (sigh.) Ah well. Easy for us to say.

It's sort of funny how "taking a HBP" is actually a skill. Anthony Rizzo is 8th all time in MLB history.

Hard to say "take the HBP" because survival instincts kick in, but that was an 85 mph sweeper, not a 96 mph fastball heading to your face.

Brice Turang was almost hit by Blake Treinen, which would've brought in the tying run. He dodged it, then struck out on the next pitch. Dodgers take Game 1.

Blake Snell with a look like “we’re just gonna pretend that last part didn’t happen.”

Extra innings would've been sweet.

Getting out of the way of a game-tying HBP and then swinging at strike 3 at your eyes is one of the most brutal game-ending bases loaded PA i've ever seen

This is only going to make Roberts trust Treinen more. Brewers are playing the long game.

Long game: Dave might go back to Treinen in max leverage later in the series

Damn. I was rooting against Treinen.

Dave Roberts is bringing in WHO?
Brewers outfielder Sal Frelick looking confused, standing in the outfield with his arms out and a little in front of him. He has his glove on his left hand and his uniform says BREWERS with the number 10
