#Breaking | The Gov't of the UK has adopted a policy to ban new oil and gas exploration. 👏

With this plan—which includes just transition elements for workers & communities—the UK becomes the 🌎's largest producer so far to end new licensing.

“The gov’t eliminated subsidies for fossil fuels & introduced long-term contracts for renewable projects, providing investors with predictable returns… Customers pay at least 20% less than they did before the transition, while the gov’t has more funds available for education and public services.”

A colleague used Grok to analyse a huge document. He then asked a series of specific questions.

Long story short, Grok just blatantly lies.

I believe Grok is programmed to tell you what it thinks you want to hear, based on your earlier questions and on what the data says about you.

Disgusting.

When do we start genuinely prioritizing safety over vehicle speed in our street design?

The double hubris of building fossil fuel generating stations to power future AI centres in MB is staggering.

Who is advising the MB NDP on this? The Koch brothers? It might as well be the Marx brothers for what a boondoggle this will be. Kind of like building a pipeline to Churchill. #mbpoli
"We're only going to burn methane for peak winter loads"
I call BS. This will be used to power AI data centres in Manitoba.
It will be burning & polluting constantly & will jack up our utility bills as a direct consequence.
You heard it here first.

This thread sharing my comments to city council today on the proposed Vancouver “austerity” city budget may seem very local, but a LOT of cities, provinces and even countries are facing severe austerity budgets right now. You might find how I tried to push back to be useful. If so, please share.

What are fossil fuel subsidies & why is addressing them so critical at #COP30?

Gov’ts spent USD 1.1 trillion subsidizing fossil fuels in 2023. While measures differ in design, the effect is the same: fossil fuels prices don’t reflect their real costs.

Mayors play a crucial role in addressing the climate crisis.

By reclaiming public space from the private property of cars, mayors can cut pollution, revive civic interaction, enhance public safety, and expand green space.

But only if they're willing to take on entrenched interests.
