So I suppose introductions are in order, or re-introductions for old friends re-found here :)

I'm Kate, I enjoyed finding community on twt building on my interests of 8 &16-bit computing/games/music. Composed music in those formats myself back-in-the-day, and did remixes of the genre for a while. >

BBC archive documentaries. For a while there progressive society had these viewpoints quiet for fear of being ostracised for their views, but now are empowered by populist windbags wielding little power but given amplification by problematic media. It may result in what we see in the US.
Yes it's a bizarre false notion based on the warped idea "it used to be better then" but what they really mean is they think it was better in their minds eye because they think there were less foreigners. It's a Small England way of thinking, you see it pop up through the ages in those old BBC>
(John Hurt reading The Strange Tale of Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde is a thing that stayed with me forever, so this was a special treat, safely transcoded to mp3 so I can listen without fishing an old tape player out of the loft!)
These days in spot I'm spoilt with the vast selection available. I still pickup physical books for my absolute faves though. And this year my other half tracked down the same cassette audiobooks of Ring of Bright water, Dracula, and Jekyll & Hyde as gifts for me. 🥰
I still enjoyed reading at this time, having just discovered Terry Pratchett at this time, I was gobbling up fantasy novels including Dragonlance, and Terry Brooks work. But audiobooks became my mainstay as time went on and I felt I had less time to just pickup a book.
I grew up with audiobooks. 1970s/80s my mum would read us chapters of books at bedtime. Enid Blyton, and The Hobbit were memorable. I borrowed audiobook tapes from school library in my teens. Ring of bright water, Dracula,Jekyll and Hyde, and The Odessa File were my limited but diverse selection 😊
London 2025 is a bright, futuristic (to my Highland expectations!) city of culture, modern infrastructure, and as CM said, a place where random young men will help a daft middle aged woman with an oversized, overpacked case up and down the stairs in stations. From very recent experience!😅
But yes. 1994 - when I watched Caitlin Moran present the TV show "Naked City" an hour before "The Word" came on - London was a place i was scared of as a lonely tall gangly 19 year old, moved from the Scottish Highlands. Homesick wasn't the half of it.
Even in 1994 when I lived and worked in London it was a dark, dirty and scary place. The Soho thing was so lurid, I'm pleased to hear it has improved. When I returned for a concert in 2004 it had palpably improved in looks and vibe. Now? Pretty delightful place to visit my sister, or attend events 😊

Amazing :) Yeah, I read a few/audiobooked the Jack Ryan stuff from The Sum of All Fears > The Bear and the Dragon in the early 2000s and enjoyed, but they seem improbable in light of current US admin.

I've got a lot of the older Clancy books. Hunt for Red October inspired me to write a Type 22 frigate game for the Sinclair QL which bought my first car followed by Type 23 for the Atari ST (written in C!). But watching The Diplomat recently Trump makes it seem like a bad joke.
Watching "House of Dynamite", new thriller with Rebecca Ferguson. I used to enjoy Tom Clancy novels. These, a bit like this film are ruined for me now as you can't take their takes on the high professionalism of the US Gov and it's security services seriously in a 2025 world.

All I saw was cheesecake boat and ocean for at least 5 minutes
Another fascinating slice of history. Younger Boomers, The Silent Generation, and young Gen'X growing up in the era of CND, The Greenham Common protests, and "those women should be at home looking after their husband and children, and cooking tea."

Happy birthday to Rose McDowall. Here are Strawberry Switchblade with Since Yesterday on #TOTP. They obviously feature prominently in the documentary film Since Yesterday: The Untold Story of Scotland's Girl Bands, which you can watch on BBC iPlayer at

Almost finished our living-room/home-cinema refurb :) Just need to paint the cable conduit/trunking :)
Thanks! It was great, though next time Nikki and I will aim to go without the extended family in tow 😅
tbh, after getting depressed hearing what AI music generation stuff was capable of, I could do with something to get excited about again.
Yamaha have launched a new version of their MoDX Synth... guess it's time for to pick a sacrifice from my current set to accommodate this inevitable new purchase. Easy, tbh, as I have the original MoDX from 7 years ago, and my regret at buying it in the 61 key version makes it the easy choice.
