A lot of people answering yes we memorized like 10 numbers of family and close friends but what's being noted less is that we didn't *try* it just happened naturally because we dialed them so often and no longer needed to look in our lil books

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

When me and Tommy Goldsmith (aka the guy who gave me a newspaper job) wrote about how Diane Keaton and other over-60 actresses can still get it. #RIPDianeKeaton

If you've seen ALL IS LOST, about a man adrift at sea, you know it was one of Robert Redford's most remarkable performances. You may not know that, during the filming, director J.C. Chandor and Redford had a very candid conversation about their feelings about death

I love the library!

Back when I was in college and wrote for the school newspaper I wrote a whole thing about the Telecommunications Act of 1996, which eliminated media ownership restrictions, and how that was going to fuck us over forever and people were like "Dan, I dunno this is an art school," well eat shit fuckos.

The ones I’d like to hear from — @jwolcott.bsky.social, Tom Carson, @kentucker.bsky.social — got outta the racket a long time ago. It’s like they all saw this coming and were like, “Fuck that!”

What would be interesting to read today is a smart cultural critic with a deep knowledge of TV & a firm grasp on the context of not just today's events but Hollywood history!

OH WAIT you fired Sepinwall @rollingstone.com

ah well, who could have foreseen that such expertise would ever be useful
