ICE admits that up to 50% of arrests in its Chicago raids are "collateral.” These aren't statistics. They are parents taken from their children, neighbors taken from our communities. When does a "collateral" U.S. citizen child's trauma matter? This isn't law enforcement; it's a campaign of terror.

I don't either. The justification (per the article) makes no sense. I think he wants a couple of anti-trans items on his resume so he can claim to be "moderate" on trans issues, but that's not going to please anybody. For anti-trans folks it'll never be enough & for the rest of us it's way too much.

Since evrybody's piling on I'll add my 2 cents as a 65-year-old raised by Republicans: you're right that they were never this blatant about racism, etc. Parents even said/believed that racism was bad. But ... they supported Reagan and others who trafficked in racism and it didn't bother them at all.

At least Newsom keeps reminding us that he has no consistent values, in case some of us forget.

Love his social media trolling of Trump - more Dems need to do that kind of thing - but I hate his poorly conceived strategy of triangulation. Nobody's looking for a leader who's "a little" transphobic.

14 Oct 2025 -- CA Gov Gavin Newsom, still tacking right for 2028, vetoes bill passed by overwhelming majorities which would allow trans ppl to stockpile a year's GAMT in case of new fed restrictions, falsely claiming it would drive up health care costs. @rikiwilchins.bsky.social
Gavin Newsom Vetoes Important HRT Stockpiling Bill For Trans Californians, Signs Other Pro-LGBTQ+ Bills
The bill would have allowed transgender people to maintain a safe supply of medication in the era of government crackdowns on care.

Congratulations to the idiot media execs, who were sure they could pay a ransom to make Trump be nice to them and it would have no long-term effects whatsoever

Trump: "We'll take a couple questions from the news. I'm sure they'll be extremely non-hostile and friendly, like JD went through a very friendly interview with George Slopodopolous, who is nice enough to pay me $16 million ... he had to pay $16 million to me."

Historians sometimes say that when societies are descending into fascism, it can be hard for the people to notice it in real time. Well, historians of the future: We are noticing.

From Chicago to Portland, James Comey to Letitia James, and so much else—this is no longer America.

McGovern: Republicans love to advocate for more work requirements for poor people… Let's have a work requirement for Republicans to show up to congress and do your god damn job.

75% of Labor Department workers are furloughed during Trump’s shutdown.

That means millions of workers will have fewer watchdogs on the beat to ensure job safety, crack down on wage theft, and enforce labor protections.

And the so-called “pro-worker president” is to blame.

I have trouble believing this is real, by which I mean, I have trouble coming to terms with the fact that this is real.

I do wonder why they have so much trouble with hands. "Human hands typically have five fingers. Never more than five."

We'll miss those extra fingers when they're gone. Or forget we ever saw them.

There it is! I knew I was missing something. I hope I notice when things like that start happening in real life!

I like to see talented people utilizing AI to mock those who use AI to communicate something that sounds sincere and inoffensive.

If you'd like to delight in a side-by-side comparison, here's Bari Weiss' reported note to CBS staffers (left) and the one I cooked up on ChatGPT with a quickly dashed-off prompt (right). Looking forward to hearing from you in the days and weeks ahead!

Not a boxer. But a sweet-looking dog or whatever.
ultralib.bsky.social
I think I agree but also wondering how you can tell it's AI. That jump seems improbable to me, and unsafe, but then it mostly looks real. But I guess I don't want a boxer(?) or any dog taking so many risks with their limbs.

Mark Kelly: “lf you are undocumented in our country, you cannot get healthcare from the Affordable Care Act exchange. You are not eligible for Medicare. You are not eligible for Medicaid. They’re just making that up. They just like to blame brown people.”

So much Democrat and pundit handwringing about the shutdown as if they're in charge of the government.

They're not. The only possibilities are Trump makes things worse with Democratic approval or Trump makes things worse despite Democratic resistance. Don't bail him out.

My latest (on @msnbc.com):
Opinion | Democrats shouldn’t bail out Trump as the shutdown drags on
The best time for the opposition to take a stand, rather than settle for untrustworthy promises, is right now.

For the other party (Dems), downplaying race doesn’t do a lot to help because racists are already activated and voting on the race cleavage, which is why they are Republicans. As long as the GOP can say “brown people exist so dems are bad,” they’ll get a 30% vote share no matter what.

Happening now: Hundreds of rabbis and Jewish community members gather in Brooklyn for a mass public memorial service on Yom Kippur, demanding a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and for the U.S. to stop arming Israel.
